HAH ! We've never moved from the "era of Foxes guarding the hen houses, you need look no farther than here in our own Lafayette LCNG. There are more "Greedy Hanger-Ons here in Lafayette than in NEW ORLEANS and BR combined.
"THE REPUBLICAN PARTY is identical to the Mexican Government in that every peso is for the government and the WEALTHY to divvy-up, and the hell with the citizens.
THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY sets aside 20 % for the 20 % of the populace-citizens on welfare programs. Ya can take that to the bank. - northsidian shotgun

Money and power drive politics, and when the Republican Party tempts Democrats with both, the political principles of opportunists give way to that temptation. Republicans showing Scott Angelle how to circumvent Louisiana's ethics laws to gain money and power must certainly have contributed to his decision to change parties. He got the money, but the voters will decide if he gets the power. I agree with the above writer: Give me an old fashioned, honest Democrat any day. And Scott Angelle, if you took the money then step down now. - Epiphany

The cheer leader who wrote Scott Angelle's article missed the point completely. If Scott Angelle, the Secretary of the Department of Natural Resources, can shake down regulated companies for money for a future political campaign while he's regulating those companies as a new Republican then we have serious problems with our ethics laws and serious problems with our "new" Republicans. Give me an old fashioned honest Democrat any day. - Cheering Leading Media

I agree with the letter from the Democrats! The "ask" may have been legal under current campaign laws, but it sure isn't ethical. Problem is, we could never get an accurate ruling on the ethics because our sometime Governor has thoroughly decimated the state ethics procedures. If it's OK for Mr. "Willy-Nilly" Angelle to curry fiscal support from the very folks he's supposed to be regulating and taxing, then we've truly returned to the era of "foxes guarding the henhouse!" - MollyBloom

Timely article. This week, the Lafayette Parish Democratic Executive Committee presented the following Letter to the Editor for publication.

Dear Editor:

God blessed Louisiana with an abundance of natural resources, but historically Louisiana's politicians have deprived Louisiana's working families of the benefits of that blessing. And here we go again. Interim Lieutenant Governor and former Democrat Scott Angelle recently returned as head of the Louisiana Department of Natural Resources, a position he held as a Democrat under both Governors Blanco and Jindal.

But shortly before returning, Scott Angelle became a Republican, and with the help of his new found Republican friends he gave companies regulated by the Louisiana Department of Natural Resources a short window of opportunity to give money for Scott Angelle's not-yet-announced political campaign for some not-yet-decided political office.

And what is worse, as head of the Louisiana Department of Natural Resources Scott Angelle will now decide how to fairly tax oil and gas companies that use horizontal drilling to capture Louisiana’s natural resources. So we cannot help but wonder if those regulated companies contributed to Scott Angelle’s recent fundraising efforts.

To protect the integrity of the office of the Louisiana Department of Natural Resources, we, the Lafayette Parish Democratic Executive Committee, call on Secretary Scott Angelle to immediately disclose the names of the contributors to his recent fund-raising efforts, and the amount of money collected from each.

If contributions came from regulated oil and gas companies, we demand that Secretary Angelle step down as head of Louisiana's Department of Natural Resources. If Scott Angelle did take money from regulated companies, we will at least understand why working families still fail to share fully in the bounty of our natural resources.

Sincerely,
Susannah Malbreaux, Chairwoman
Lafayette Parish Democratic Executive Committee - Lafayette Democratic Executive Committee
