Texas has oil money so that's one BIG reason ya'll don't pay state income taxes. Louisiana is still trying to recover from Katrina but even before that misspending and rampant social programs are bankrupting more states in this country then any other reason. The sheer number of people that are living off the government dime is more then ever. Many are not legit reasons. The coming budget cuts to higher education in Louisiana are going to hurt BUT there are other avenues the state is looking to cut spending. We don't hear about any of those. The universities do spend a lot of money on things they don't need however this rip the bandaid off approach is certain to meet with residence. Thankfully the students at these universities are either too respectful to protest violently like in England with there proposed tripling of tuition OR they are just to damned lazy! - Outside looking in

Texas populace are not required to pay a state income tax

Then go back to Texas.

I happen to like paying taxes. Call me patriotic. You nitwits (republicans)ruined the country and now you are hoping that china overtake the american economy by giving the rich more money.

Trickle down economics is a fools erand. Moreover, it is not democratic, nor is it patriotic.

Jindal and each governor, and the president should raise taxes throughout the US to make solvent the entire country. Once each state, and the federal budget are solvent, each then institute a constitutional amendment for a balance budget.

Next, each state, and the federal government should commit to investing 2 trillion in renewable energy, and new technology.

Even though Jindal is more feminine than sister sarah, I'm sure he would agree with this approach. - SENSIBLE POLITICS

We should limit the Legislature to 30 working days per year.
Also, Bobby should not accept pay for all the days he us away from his office except for days he is on Official State of Louisiana business.
Rumor is Jindal might be appointed head of the Republican National Committee when Michael Steele's term is over. Bobby is raising more money for the RNC than Michael.
If only The Governor could formulate a plan to raise funds for our state treasury instead of all these out of state causes.

I actually PREFER politicians that don't do much.

Then you must have despised Dick and Bush. Everytime you think about them you must vomit, right? When you think about how they ruined the country, you curl up into a ball, cover your head and cry, huh? When you think about all the REAL AMERICANS they killed, you go catatonic, huh? - LAFAYETTE NATIVE RESIDING IN CA

Ragin', if Jindal were worth his salt, he himself would have actually proposed specific cuts, rather than forcing the beggars to make their own cuts and scramble for any crumbs he will give them. Forcing individual universities to decide what gets cut instead of looking at the overall higher ed system(s) and determining priorities from there makes no sense whatsoever.

If jindal has done anything to benefit louisiana i've missed it.This is another example of a politician who is incapable of governing, but awarded the job due to a lack of decent choices at election time.America,if u want him, take him.He is of no use to us with his no questions press conferences.Vitter can be his running mate. - john hoosier

" planned cuts for higher education will set this state back for a generation at the very least." So a Democrat in LA Legislature doesn't like budget cuts. What's new?

Maybe this guy should have proposed other spending cuts in his open letter to the Governor. I don't care WHERE Jindal spends his time, so long has he vetoes ANY tax increase that come across his desk. He can do that from Timbuktu as far as I'm concerned.

I actually PREFER politicians that don't do much. - ragin_cajun
