Could we sell Orleans Parish to Mexico? Might as well have all the drug dealers in one place. It would easily cut the State welfare costs by half or more. Think of it as a way to balance the budget. - OTHER BROTHER DARRYL

Love the Louisiana Family Forum or hate them, they have come up with a pretty good plan. All due respect Walter, I don't think the plan's main focus is to neuter Democrats or Gays and Lesbians. The congressional delegation already has only one Democrat and every day brings word of more elected Democrats changing parties. The issue of whether the delegation remain Republican is already over.

The idea of a single coastal district is just a diversionary tactic with the aims of keeping two districts in north Louisiana while breaking up the acadiana/southwest representation. Aca/SWLA would be broken into 4 districts. Lake Charles ought to be screaming bloody murder about this.

Based on census figures through 2006/2008, the parishes of Aca/SWLA have seen a population growth of at least 125,000 people. North Louisiana has seen a "growth" of about 645. If there is an area of Louisiana that deserves to lose representation, it is North Louisiana. If North Louisiana had the population growth the rest of the state had, then we would not have lost a Congressional seat.

I almost don't care how they draw up the rest of the state, but we as an Acadiana/Southwest Louisiana region need to stay united in keeping Lafayette, Lake Charles in the same congressional district.

All the best,

Soop - Soop.

Walter .. one glaring error in your piece (second para, first sentence). The population of Louisiana did not go down. We GREW by 1.4% but that growth was too slow to keep pace with other states so we lost a seat.

I offer this up so it can be corrected.

All the best,
