“… five city districts entirely within the city and four parish districts entirely outside the city while also satisfying the Justice Department caveat that Lafayette have two majority-black districts.”

I wonder where will the two majority–black districts be, in the City or outside the City or one in each?

Money Question:
Will the City plus Parish representative’s salaries be paid 50/50 from City and Parish tax dollars equally as they represent both?

Will the Parish only representatives be paid by the Parish taxes only or will they keep the current split, 16% Parish $/ 84% City $?

How did the City negotiate with the Parish for the 16% Parish and 84% City funding of the administration and council departments? (Page 43, LCG Budget Document 2010-2011 Adopted)

“I just don’t see the unincorporated area growing with the city of Lafayette remaining static. I think the city of Lafayette is going to continue to grow.”

Base on the maps I have seen, the geographical boundaries of the City of Lafayette are now confined by the Non-Con Cities. How can the City of Lafayette “grow” when property has to be connected to the Corporate City Limits? Indy, please show us a map of this potential growth area?

“The population is being replenished…”
How is the City of Lafayette tax base growing if you are just replacing its population and not increasing its taxable property?

Gotta go with Pedro on this one! Hefner fails on school improvement, LCG next!

Note: LUS does not give away water to outlying areas, they sell it for a tidy profit. - Compassionate One

Mr. Hefner talks a lot but actually accomplishes little. Some would call this a blowhard. - Gene Broussard

This seemed to me to be the common sense solution to the immediate problem of councilmen trying to serve the dual role of representing both parish interests and city interests.

Just a thought .... having a non-city Mayor President was a risk this system was going to have from day one. If some yokel from the parish came in and worked some magic on the city-folk, well then we'd be in the same boat some people are worried about for the future.

But even still, fair is fair. Lafayette should have its own mayor.

All the best,

Soop

Walter, another great article/opinion about Mike Hefner and his ideas! His proven results in the LPSS lend credibility to his demographic abilities! He "fixed" our schools, now we can trust him to "fix" our city/parish! Oh, Happy Day! - Pedro
