Het BoFred,

There is a whole industry based on the reuse of t-shirts as cut up rags. There are two facilities in Lafayette that cut up t-shirts and sell them to companies like Shannon Hardware and other mom and pop industrial suply companies. They buy their rags from Goodwill. Goodwill bundles the clothes that they can't resale and sells them to the textile companies.

Interesting question about how the public knows "the good guys from the bad guys". Wonder what make him think they can tell right now? - holeinthedonut8

Goodwill Purgahn's get a free pass, they are KREWE members.
Somebody has to make some guidas off the dumb couillions who use the Goodwill for a tax shelter, the Purgahn's laugh all the way to the KINGS BALL, with the other self interest thiefs. Chris Williams, is presently accepting all he can carry, and Harson could use another drink while the court is in recess. Harson file charges, WHaaaa ? - NORTHSIDIAN SHOTGUN

This is a power play by Goodwill, someone is diluting their free inventory system. They use "Non-profit" like a surgeon uses a scalpel. The more other players get involved the more services get delivered to the public. Someone who cares about the public would welcome other service providers non profit or for profit. This is about Goodwill losing control of a sugar plum-

Goodwill in Lafayette lists the Purgahn's (husband and wife) as receiving nearly $250,000 in 2009. The Purgahn's are the principals at Goodwill. - Wikileaks

Are you serious? There are businesses now that sell rags or the items we don't even use as cleaning rags to poor countries? Anything for a buck. So now, when I see a commercial for starving children, dressed in filthy, torn shirt, I can thank a company for providing that shirt? God really is rolling if anyone paid anything for that shirt. - BoFred

Good point, Boudreaux. Why is Goodwill exempt? Have you seen their profit numbers and how much their CEO makes.

If you are going to prohibit for-profits from using donation bins for collections, you need to prohibit ALL of them, not exempt your two favorites.

However, non-profits already receive tax-exempt status and receive government subsidies. Hard to make the argument they operate at a disadvantage. - RCajunrunner

Why should for profit enterprises be prohibited?

Why should not-for-profits be granted a monopoly?

If government can do this (donation bins), then the government can outlaw any business. - James Melancon

Excellent idea. The time to pass/enact such an ordinance would be before such a problem surfaces. Of course, once such for profit groups present such a problem, how is the public to recognize the "good guys" from the "bad guys." The ordinance would need to provide some means of verification. - GV4MAN
