Danny, I am very proud of you and Shelly you keep that business going. I am afraid that you will not see your nanny (godmother) there unless you want to see the EMS (paradmedics) there also. I tried once in Houston, Texas and the truck actually had to come and pick my girlfriend up in their personal truck and that was not a pretty sight, As all of this was taking place before they announced to clear the ice ring, my four year old son and his other four year old friend were flying like birds around and around the rink laughing at us as their mothers as we were both holding on to the walls but still made one entire circle. Isn't it best that we away? Especially at our age, lol.hey Nance and Sarah and Smtih, great job, Shell, GET IT GOING WITH YOUR BAD SELF. Ha.Nanny Sherri - Nanny Sherri Champagne

Nolaf, when in the heck would it ever take 45 minutes to get from Youngstown to Planet Ice?????? I think you have your rinks messed up. I live in youngsville and can be at Planet Ice in 15 minutes in the worst traffic this place has to offer. LA ice however is never less than 30 minutes even if all lights are green. The bottom line is, this isnt about you, its about youth hockey development, which this town needs desperatley. The more ice the better. Sounds like you work at LA ice : ) - Knuckles

Just because people may not like driving to Carencro to skate doesn't meant the rink doesn't exist. I assume, Ethan, that you also wouldn't drive to Baton Rouge to skate, but yet that rink is still mentioned in the article. I agree with nolaf, that omitting LA Ice, the other rink in the immediate area(10 minutes away), while mentioning one that's over an hour away, is poor form on the part of the writer and the owner.

In addition, LA Ice offers everything Mr. Smith mentions, including public skate sessions, Learn to Skate classes, Stick and Puck times, pickup hockey, hockey camps, and a recreational hockey league. If the intention is to grow hockey in the area, then potential players should be made aware of all their options, instead of being led to believe there is only one. - M

LA Ice has customers coming from BR, NO & Lake Charles as well as all corners of Lafayette. You mention Youngsville......I drive to LA Ice from the southside. In fact, driving my child from our house to LA Ice may very well take less time then trying to drive to Johnston & Rena. Fighting and sitting in Lafayette traffic for 35-45 minutes just to get from Youngsville to Planet Ice? Forget it. - nolaf

Alot of people, including myself, dont like driving to carencro to play or skate. To be honest, majority of this areas best players and players in general come from the lafayette and youngsville area...This is extremely smart to have a rink in the heart of the city.I cant tell you how many people wont go to LA ice because is far away. Im so pumped i can drive 5 minutes down the road to play some hockey !! - Ethan

The comment is referring to beginner hockey. There are no beginner hockey programs anywhere in Acadiana or Baton Rouge. - Just Here

Hmmm...."The biggest problem I have here with the hockey scene in Lafayette is that if I were a person who never played hockey (or) never skated before, but wanted to, there’s no place you can go skate” says Smith. “There’s no session where you can just come out there and have no experience and get into the swing of things." AND "Smith says Planet Ice will be providing an icy alternative to Acadiana all year long, competing with the seasonal rink in Baton Rouge...". Are you KIDDING ME???!!! LA Ice in Carencro has been around for years....and they are NOT seasonal!!!In fact the Figure Skating Club of New Orleans (the only competitive figure skating club in La.) is based there and the La IceGators train there. The omission reflects poorly on the writer as well as Mr. Smith. - nolaf
