As one of the less well-behaved Reagan children, I came to know the tyrannical side of Father Harry pretty quickly, but his huge heart just as quickly. Quick to smile even through frustration, quicker to smile when he appreciated some kind deed or fun loving mischief, he was a steadfast model of a real man of God. - Charlie Reagan

I was new to Lafayette in 1970 when I first met Father at Pius on the basketball court. he came to me and asked if I was new in the neighborhood and I replied yes. He then asked if I was Catholic and I replied no, I am Mthodist. he said thats fine, you are welcome to come to Catechism with your friends anytime. I did and he made me feel so welcome, it did not matter to him what religion you were, he loved everyone as a parent loves their children. I will never forget him. - Keith French

Thank You, Father. I was a Cathedral altar boy. I'll remember always your example of priestly holiness, love of Church, and kindness. I will also remember the gift of a family dinner and small crucifix just before my departure for Danang, Vietnam. I carried the crucifix on many missions. I truly believe your prayers were heard and aided even saved, me, squadron mates, and many ground troops. Merci beaucoup from the 390thTFS,13thTFS,308thTFS and countless others. - Martial Broussard (Bootsie)

Jackie,
Beautiful article!! My brother Patrick sent it to me.
It certainly brings back memories of the "tyrant" and his many kindnesses! He officiated at my marriage with a 2 hour notice. Our priest had a heart attack and Father Benefiel stepped in! His game was always "on"... - Nancy Reagan Mackrides

Beautiful tribute Jackie...I too was lucky enough to be there for the early St. Pius days with Father when this part of Lafayette was growing up. Fortunate enough as well to stay in touch with him as later on, he would preside over the marriages of my sister, one of my brothers and myself and then go on to babtize our children. We could not have had a better priest and leader. Father was patient, forgiving and always smiling. The right person in the right place at the right time of our lives. - Pat Reagan
