Thank you for the efforts and hard work that DLU staff and volunteers do to make DTA! and other events so enjoyable. Because you so successfully throw great parties, we can't help but be disappointed when you have to cancel. Consider out collective sighs a compliment to your accomplishments. - Marsha Miller

No one can possibly be more upset about cancelling Downtown Alive! than the people who put countless hours and sweat into it. It is agonizing to make the final decision. After consulting two meteorologists on Friday, who both said to cancel and weather would last till 6pm, there was no other option. Setup starts 4 hours before the show and of course there is consideration for the very expensive sound equipment that could be ruined, the safety of the band and the safety of our great fans, especially when there is a tornado watch as was the case last Friday. We have numerous volunteers, staff, the band, sound engineers, vendors and more that all have to be contacted and given the bad news. Plus, the word has to be spread to our diehard audience through multiple forms of media. Cancelling something we have planned for since January is possibly the worst part of the job, and the latest we can make the decision is 3pm. We appreciate the passion and enthusiasm for DTA! and hope that everyone will come out to our next event on May 6th for The Howdies. Again, we want to emphasize that it takes many hours to put everything in motion for the band to start at 6pm. Thanks for 27 years of support! - Downtown Lafayette
