A triumph for Tony. I'm saddened to see that some comments reflect a seemingly universal ignorance and absolute lack of empathy for wild animals. Tigers are endangered: there are 3,400 left on this planet. Obviously, he will never be a 'free' tiger as he is not equipped to deal with the wild, having been raised by human imbeciles. I wish him peace for the remainder of his days. - Andrea Dalton, South Africa

I say Tony should go to Big Cat Rescue in Tampa--that way, his former owner is still in the 'region' and can reasonably visit a couple times a year; and Tony can live in a more natural habitat.

That being said, I also have to throw this out here: I've been all for getting this cat out of a TRUCK STOP--a place where wild animals do not belong--but I do worry about the fact that the truck stop is all Tony has ever known. I'd be curious to know what big cat experts think about his chances of being reasonably happy in more natural surroundings--will he assimilate easily, or will it be hard for him? Can anyone say? - mellvis

WHOOP WHOOP !!! I stopped giving this truck stop business MANY years ago and encouraged friends and family to do the same. Each and every time I would pass the truck stop a prayer was lifed up for those poop tigers living in such horable conditions...again WHOOP WHOOP the prayers of many have been answered!! - GraysonL

To "that is soooo great". Perhaps if your state would've followed their own laws, a lawsuit would not have been necessary. I will repeat Tony is a PROTECTED ENDANGERED SPECIES. He is protected by Federal and State laws.
The incompetant employees at LDWF messed up, repeatedly. When it was brought to their attention, they ignored it. Hence the lawsuit. You wanna whine about the cost, complain to those that should be held accountable for their failure to DO THE JOBS that your tax dollars pay them to do. As a Louisiana tax payer, you should be outraged at LDWF for thinking they could break the law and not have to answer for it. Too bad, so sad. They got busted and hopefully they will pay more than just the legal expenses. I hope those responsible lose their jobs. I'm sure there are plenty of good, qualified persons in the State of Louisiana who can do better then this clown crew did. - Martina

I love how an outside animal lobby group comes down here, sues over this and we have to pay for it (aren't there more importatn things to do in life?). Tony might not have it so great, but at least he's not paying for this (and at least he's not in India!) - that is sooo great

It never ceases to amazes me the ghastly attacks over worthy causes. I am not going to dignify the few ugly comments above and spoil a joyous moment.
However having said that I will say that it really angers me there are so few laws in the USA to protect all animals........... It is illegal where I come from to own exotics privately and I hope I see that happen here one day.
I am a fairly regular visitor at BCR and I feel I can make a valid comment. It is ( or one of this quality) the best sanctuary for Tony to be cared for in the way he NEEDS. - Nikh

It never ceases to amaze me the ne'er do wells that crow and sling missiles. Some of the above comments I will not dignify with a direct critique, suffice to say those of us with MINDs can figure it out. However having said that I am deeply angered with the ill informed attacks on BCR.
I REALLY hope Tony can go there as I feel ( being a regular visitor there I feel I can make a valid comment) that it is safe and sane haven where he can live and be cared for as he deserves.
So put all the missiles away and celebrate a HUGE victory for animals in the USA. I hope one day there will NOT be a need for BCR but that is a very long road away!
I think many people world wide did a marvelous and tenacious act! - Nikh

I am always going to support Tony going to a BIG CAT sanctuary. Man has ran tigers into near extinction. It disgusts me.

Sandlin has the old slavemaster mentality....sorry Sandlin we are changing and slavery just isn't cool anymore. - Kathryn

Michael Sandlin we have been putting up with your tirades and crybaby tactIcs for far too long, you dont deserve a Tiger, you treat him horribly. He has never had a physical exam by a vet, your a LIAR, SO MUCH SO THAT IN THE WORDS OF JANE AUSTEN YOU HAVE DELIGHTED US LONG ENOUGH. TONY BELONGS AT A SANCTUARY END OF STORY, WHERE HE can experience fresh air, free from diesel fumes, and loud trucks shining their bright lights in his eyes while he tries to sleep. WHAT ON EARTH IS WRONG WITH YOU, OVER 30,000 PEOPLE SIGNED PETITION, WHEN ARE YOU GOING TO UNDERSTAND YOUR ABUSING TONY, HOW DARE YOU TREAT ANYONE OR ANY LIVING CREATURE LIKE THAT...A SANCTUARY IS WHERE HE BELONGS, NOW GO MAKE A CD, GO FIND SOME OTHER HOBBY, WE ARE SICK OF YOUR ANTICS AND YOU WHINING LIKE A GIRL...COSTING THE TAXPAYERS MONEY, KEEP LYING.!!!!!!!PFFFFTTT - CHERYL H

Big Cat Rescue and Carol Baskins are nothing by hypocrites. She got a fla import permit months ago to take away Tony the tiger. She has been trying to steal him for more publicity for herself. She is also being investigated right now by Fla Fish and Wildlife Commission for stealing three healthy bobcats from Al and brought them illegally in to Fla and ultimately all three died in her care of neglect. - kathy S

Here's the thing...Yes, no matter where Tony goes he'll be in a cage, but a cage where he can live his life out being able to do the things he's never been able to do. This magnificent creature could never be released back into the wild. He would have to be conditioned first or he wouldn't make it. He didn't choose his life, someone chose it for him. My vote goes to Big Cat Rescue. They do an awesome job and I think that's the best place for him.

And in response to "Dude's comment...sounds like you have some anger issues. Some people choose people, some people choose animals. Myself, I like my animals better than I like most people. Instead of ranting and raving, do what we did. We rallied and supported this animal to give him a better life. You go out and do the same for those innocent men rotting in prison. And no,I'm not ashamed of myself one bit! - Bourae

Dude~ What is "disgusting" is your deluted mentality. How is it taking away a mans RIGHTS when he never had the RIGHT to own the Tiger to begin with? This is not an ordinary house cat, this is a wild, endangered animal who is PROTECTED by law for a reason. I won't waste my time telling you the reason because your ignorance speaks volumes in your post. By the looks of it you must be one of those "innocent" ( cough cough) inmates in prison.
You clearly have many issues, against women, against animals. Did you ever think that the high divorce rate could be because of spineless men with NO compassion such as yourself? - Martina

I'm a supporter of Big Cat Rescue, and if Tony is sent there he will not have a cage, but a sizeable open-air enclosure with trees and grass and toys to keep him occupied, maybe even other big cats in the same cage for socializing. See www.bigcatrescue.org - Farrow

Hopefully he will be sent to one of those BIG CAT sanctuaries where they get to roam, almost free, on acres and acres. Poor Tony may be ruined to the point where he can't feed himself. I couldn't keep my poor old housecat inside. - Northern Cynic

Yall are a bunch of hypocrits, how many of you have pets? and how many of your pets have a pond and fields of green and all that jazz? So when are you going to "free" your pet? Jacksticks.. you sit here and praise when another right is taken from man and given to beast, its disgusting, If some of you women cared as much about your men as you do your damn cats maybe we wouldnt have a huge divorce rate and a bunch of your kids out wreaking havoc on society. Just remember, there are at least 2000 innocent men in prison in Louisiana, the money spent on this one damn tiger could have freed half of them, yet people like you jump for joy because of freeing some cat who wont live another 4yrs anyways while innocent men rot in prison? You should be ashamed of yourselves. - dude

That's all fine and great, but zoos are the most horrible places for animals...makes me sick going to them to see those animals confined for our amusement. Nice cage = oxymoron
