The story confirmed what many suspected the rally was all about: politicians and lobbyists exploiting fear for political gain...not that there is anything unusual about that. What was unusual is Loren Scott admitting he "did not know" why Louisiana didn't suffer more from the moratorium. Since he often is wrong, admitting ignorance rather than telling the unwashed what they want to hear shows personal growth. Good for Boring Loren. - rambeaux rawlings

all the technology to get to oil and gas miles below the surface of the earth, all the money spent on such technology, the value of such technology to the planet....yet no viable or adequate technology to prevent or clean up a mess such as the BP or Exxon disaster. Umph..umph...umph... - horserider

The fact that we maintained our economy despite tough economic times is a testimony to our resiliency and ability to adapt. Just think how well our economy would be doing if we also had the deepwater drilling. I take offense to the insinuation that we were fear-mongering. The people in the Cajundome were standing up for what was right and voicing their opinion to a President who typically does not listen to the people. What would have happened if we didn't have the rally? Should we all have just taken it and jumped onto the welfare bandwagon when things jobs went away. I didn't like the tone of this article at all. Makes me wonder what kind of a publication the Independent is based on who it supports and who it doesn't. Maybe not so "independent" after all. - Jay Pierret

Forecloser rates, short sales, and the weekly bankruptsy names and figures tell the other side of the story here in good ol build-out-to-the-max Lexus-driving Lafayette, boomtown Louisiana.

Now it appears to be a race to the end to see who will be able to keep up the "lifestyle" the longest before having to commit bankruptsy. Hey buddy..do you think you could extend my available credit just a little more on that Visa??? Couldja please...just this one time more???? Well then could you spare me a smoke and 10 dollars??? - coming to a neighborhood near you

on how long the Gulf drilling lag lasts. A lot of people who were working the Gulf are now working in Pennsylvania like me. But, more and more, local people are learning the gas field jobs. Eventually, most of the workforce up here will be local folks or people who have permanently relocated to the Marcellus shale from places like Louisiana, Texas or Oklahoma. The Marcellus is the second largest natural gas field in the world, so there is work here for years to come. But, they won't import Cajuns working 28 and 14 forever. Eventually, the Pennsylvanians will be trained to do those jobs and they'll get them. Which, is as it should be, I guess. - It all depends

Think about how many laws and regulations are passed in Baton Rouge and Washington D.C. every year, in large part based on "expert" predictions and projections just like these that turn out to be just as false. - noname123
