I see in Louisiana being a prostitute is not only laying on your back. Congratulations Mrs. Boffy on your accomplishments may you go far in your quest for power and your lopsided ideals. - Mitchell Mallett

Well now she has won, and good that she has 10 yeara of experience, as a teacher. LPSS is one of the worse managed school systems and grades are low because of bad teachers, so I guess 10 years should be enough to put in and think you know it all. I bet you her kid will go to a private school, not because she knows better than to put him on a public one, but because of their religious views (yeah right) she couldn't stand being in the public system anymore, now she is going to come in and inflict her views on every one else. I would vote for a teacher from Faulk or Carencro Heights over one that teaches at magnet school any day. They know what is going on with our system.

I guess her next stop: LT. Governor!!! - WTFHypocrit

Let's see...She wins teacher of the year and then decides that see no longer wants to teach anymore. Maybe she should not have won the award. After ten years she "retires" from the school system and then jumps into another education position. It looks to me like she is going to be one of those people that scams two or three retirements from the state by the time its all over with. A little to much of an opportunist for my taste. - AHSPlayer

Be careful with the circus show. This lady is definetly pulling the wool over the eyes of voters. Over $25,000 of her campaign contributions have come from 5 big donors located outside of this area...Try four from New Orleans and one millionaire business owner out of the Baton Rouge area. (aka Cajun Industries). If you want your neighborhood schools to be totally controlled by the state, then vote for Holly Boffy. If you want your local tax revenue diverted from local schools to fund New Orleans voucher programs, then vote for Holly Boffy. Her strings are definetly being pulled and will continue to be pulled if she makes it to BESE. It's also funny that the Association of Professional Educators of Louisiana (A+PEL), Holly's employer, purports to be non-political and non-union (hogwash). Sounds like their being funded by big money. Big money that wants to control your vote. - My Take

Why have a BESE board if it's so political? We vote on people that only a certain group knows, and we're supposed to take their word on who to vote for. Maybe it should be the School boards to vote on the BESE board, or let the people of the state vote whether to keep it or abolish it. The school system keeps changing every year, and the legislature hasn't been able to increase the MFP's per student the last couple of years due to budetary constraints and Charter schools. Many teachers spend their own money and free time to better their classroom at their own expense. The dedicated ones do it because they care about the children. It is in their heart. One of the problems we have is when a teacher retires and goes back to work the next day. It's allowed by law, so what would you do if you had that opportunity. Good question, wouldn't you say. - Husband of a Teacher

Dale Bayard is one of the few BESE members willing to stand up to the morons in the State Department of Education. He needs to be re-elected. Holly Boffy is a little political opportunist who is all talk and no substance. She hides her agenda to advance herself behind her "sweet" exterior. A vote for her is a vote against public schools. - old teacher

@Plumpy Really....needing a businesman familiar with the real world?? Did you really just say that? Step one foot into a classroom businessman .....that's the "Real world". Businesmen would only make decisions about a world he doesn't live in.
The last thing our educational system needs is someone making decisions who does not have classroom experience. We need fewer business men and more educators making our educational decisions.

Boffy is genuinely passionate about education and the future of students. It's time we start electing people who are involved in our educational system for the right reasons, not just deep pockets. - Teach

Well said Gary. Holly Boffy is the obvious choice and exactly who we need on the State Board of Elementary & Secondary Education (BESE). This is an incredibly important position because the leadership on BESE directs the fate of our public school system. Let us all hope Mrs. Boffy is elected for the sake of our school, but let's all get out and vote just to be sure she does! - Cole Griffin

By the way, Boffy's possible opponent, Bayard, is the guy the Ind quoted as saying of his refusal to vote for new state biology textbooks:

“Can you just swear on a stack of Bibles and bet your life [that evolution is correct]?” Bayard continues hypothetically. “And they say, ‘Absolutely not.’ I say, ‘Well then why do we print a textbook that says that? Why can’t we provide the children with textbooks that provide objective educational methods to look at what’s out there? Must we go out and do the research ourselves? We’re going to spend $72 million with a textbook company, and they’re not going to swear this is accurate?’ They don’t even want to put a disclaimer in their textbook.”

Let's just hope Boffy is not also pro-creationism. - Farrow
