This bill was an outrageous bill that Robideaux should have read as he would have been remembered as presenting an unconstitutional bill leading to gross abuses in eminent domain. Now, Durel has once again tried to pass an ordinance setting himself up as king and rather than putting all adjudicated properties up for free market public bidding by the sheriff, he wants to decide which properties are donated to people (sometimes nonprofits), which get sold outright and which he might allow to bidding. He would need an employee "administer" to handle his decisions on all adjudicated properties. GIVE IT UP DUREL!! The adjudicated properties are not your personal property to give away to friends!!! - realitycheck

These thieves are running wild, they have pulled the wool over everyones eyes so long they think they're invisible like the drunk at midnight at the Boney Fish Grill......... Hah, I watched Pres. Durel at a Mens, Clothier one afternoon, he walked around, and around, and around, and not one soul greeted him. Jesus not even the clerks... What, an image this man has. - NORTHSIDIAN SHOTGUN

The Lafayette chamber, Joey Durel, LEDA. and DDA and the insiders that pull their strings should be ashamed of themselves. Thanks to Joel for pulling their bill.
Also thanks to the Dems and the GOP and especially the Tea Party of Lafayette for alerting us to the machines shenanigans.

Congrats to the Tea Party for raising some important questions about this legislation. Anybody who wants the real skinny on TIF's should go to the Tea Party event June 30 at River Oaks Center. Randal O'Toole, an expert on TIF's with the Cato Institute will be featured. His research proves that TIF's are widely abused by local and state governments all at the taxpayer's expense, of course. Glad Rep. Robideaux finally saw the light. - Ophelia 46

...and if Joel has all these concerns about HB-531, and that's why he pulled it.....doesn't he have the same concerns about the NORTH LAFAYETTE REDEVELOPMENT AUTHORITY? That authority has existed for a few years now. Perhaps Joel should look into repealing the statutes that created that as well? - ragin_cajun

Yeah, it's good to see Joel sober up. But...it would have been A LOT nicer if Joel had read this bill and come to this conclusion on his own...BEFORE he wasted everybody's time and effort by proposing a bill leaves "important questions" unanswered.

Joel couldn't read that bill himself and see that it wouldn't really address its stated objectives? I bet that bill isn't 100 pages....he oughta be able to read that in about 30 minutes, think about it for an hour, and figure out that it's a bad idea.

What'd he do? Just drop the bill in the hopper because Durel and friends told him to? - ragin_cajun

Glad Joel saw the light and withdrew this ill-conceived, poorly written bill. The Lafayette delegation should not consider any more bills that create boards, commissions, etc., that can commit our tax dollars without recourse for the voters. That goes for the UL Economic Development legislation as well. - IMJacquemo

Good to see Joel sober up. Now, if the rest of the legislature would do the same. - Yankee Noodle
