Walter, thank you for your correction of my error concerning Page Cortez. By your accurate report of his voting in regard to the tax renewal as well as the veto override, you have confirmed that he is a true blue lap dog of Piyush Jindal. - The way it is.

Rambeaux.....

Or....are they people who....,perhaps.....think/feel....,that the dollars they spend moments of the finite days of their lives EARNING.,...should be theirs to keep?'?!?!

I pay lotsa taxes.,,,tell us all..,,,.why should I pay even more?

Can you tell us.....how much of what I earn should be taken from me? Can you please tell me what percentage of my earnings you, and the "state" or "community", or "collective", or "cool town" are now entitled to?

Seriously....tell me...what percent is enough.,,,,and what would you deem to be too much.,,,

Just so wr know who we're talking to here.,,. - ragin_cajun

Where were all the "fiscal conservatives" when the possible review of $7 billion in tax emptions was shot down by Jindal?
Are people who oppose all taxes really "fiscal conservatives" or are they anarchists? Or are they just selfish and scared? (Answers available on request). - rambeaux rawlings

Walter--

I typically work on the weekends, Walter. I'm a very busy man...until I'm forced to wait on line for administrative/bureaucratic nonsense...

Did you know that all the time I spend posting to this site is time that I'm forced to wait by some kind of senseless rule/regulation/ordinance/law/statute? I look back through all these articles a few times a year and marvel at the time taken from me by meddling busybody bathroom monitors from my youth who have grown up now and call themselves "officials"...,...

All those moments, lost in time, like "tears in rain"....:)

I didn't say I agree with Cortez voting against the renewal, ragin, and for the record I emphatically do not. But since "The way it is" inaccurately claimed that Cortez went all fraidy-cat like Robideaux and Landry when that wasn't the case, I thought it fair to clear that up before it became conventional wisdom.
Now will you please log off and go get ready for your Civil War reenactment or whatever it is you do on weekends?!!
sheesh - Walter Pierce

C'mon, Walter. It wasn't a year ago were lecturing me about pragmatism and flexibility in our public leaders. You told me all this insistence on principles was no good. Now you're trotting out the old John Wayne style nod to an opponent who stuck to his guns? PLEASE!!!

I demand an investigation! Did you recently get a "real sweet deal" on a La-z-boy recliner? - ragin_cajun

Actually, "The way it is," Cortez voted against the renewal last month and voted against the override on Thursday.
Say what you will about the tax renewal, I'll give Cortez credit for being consistent.
Staying in Lafayette Parish, ditto for Rickey Hardy and Bobby Badon, both of whom voted for the renewal and for the override.
We can't say the same for Joel and Nancy. - Walter Pierce

It is odd to see such enthusiasm for additional taxes, sin or otherwise, as many of those commenting here seem to have. The flip-flop is odd given those representatives should never have voted for renewing an expiring tax, but perhaps they were made aware of their constituents' feelings on the matter after the veto and rightfully changed their minds. Why Page Cortez would be voting in favor of increased (or renewed) taxes as a purported conservative is hard to fathom. - Independent Conservative

Jindal is wrong and is not caring about the state of Louisiana. He is only concerned about himself.

Page Cortez, if you look at his voting history, does not typically vote to support anything cancer related. I will do my best to make sure he is not in office after this next election.

Nancy and Joel have now joined the list with Page. These three clearly support our Governor more than they support the people of Lafayette. It is time that Lafayette comes together and makes a change for people who support US. - P Cortez Needs to be Out of Office

Government these days, more than ever, is interested in taxing everything, and we, as a society, are becoming more and more dependent on government to take care of our asses. That is what is shameful! - Dudley E. LaBauve, III

It was a TEMPORARY TAX that was allowed to expire.

What a horror, letting people keep more of their money and letting the government tighten up. (sarcasm)

Nancy Landry voted for the renewal, but against the veto out of loyalty to the governor who supported her campaign for state representative. Joel Robideaux voted against the veto because he wants Jindal to appoint him Speaker next year. Page Cortez voted for the renewal and for the veto knowing that the veto override would fail, but that his "yea" vote would make him look like he is not a lap dog of Piyush Jindal. We all know the truth is, Page Cortez will sit up and yip everything Piyush Jindal snaps his fingers. Bottom line, Piyush Jindal runs the state lock, stock, and smoking cigarette butt. - The way it is.

Dear Governor Jindal...YOU GOT THIS ONE WRONG!
Some things should be taxed. Cigarettes are one of them. I watched my beloved mother die from lung cancer two years ago. She was a pack a day smoker for over 40 years. God knows she tried to quit many times over the years but couldn't quit until 2 months before her death. I'm a former smoker who still craves nicotine 6 years after quiting and watching my mother fade away before my very eyes.

Yep, you got this one wrong Mr. Governor...and so did your lapdogs over at the state capitol who wouldn't overturn your veto of the cigarette tax. The reasons for your veto and for their refusal was nothing more than a political power play and you all know it.

I can tell you this...knowing what I know now...you can't tax this DRUG enough. How much does a pack of cigarettes cost???? My mom would tell you...her life. - WhereIsOurVoice

I understand Nancy's lack of balls, but the rest??? All those men in the legislature and so little testosterone.... How can so many people be so afraid of such a little man.... They should know its the voters they need to be afraid of. We will not forget their cowardice. Hers included. - BoFred
