I was on vacation in Louisiana just a few weeks ago. I was pulled over by a St. Landry Parish Police for speeding he said I was 55 in a 45 the the posted speed was 65. While driving the posted speed went from 65 to 45 the sign are posted 20 feet apart not to mention the polce was not in plain view, he was hidden behind a building. This was a setup from the start, needless I will never visist that place again to spend my hard earned money in a swamp. All of Louisiana Sucks...... - VISITOR

Does the city of Washington use St. Landry Parish deputies or City of Washington Police? I got pulled over for going 7 mph over on the interstate amongst a bunch of other vehicles and the ticket was for $165. 1-5 mph over was $150. Thats pretty sketchy to me. After reading this article I am curious if im part of the scam? I have not paid my ticket yet from Monday July 24.

And likewise, I will never again attend the Catfish Festival nor eat at the Steamboat restaurant again because of Washington's speed scam. The same goes for Jeanerette which now has a "marshal" pulling people over along Hwy. 90. I might excuse Jeanerette for doing this during cane season (sugar mills are nearby), but not Washington.
BTW, TheInd, go back and pull the audits for Washington for the past 12 years. At one point, the town (Mayor) was paying its cops (chief) a commission for every ticket written. Bet this hasn't stopped. - Cajunhiker

I agree with "Fair Play" " Although the town is quaint and has a nice little restaurant, I stopped going to Washington because of it's speed scam." That is the best way to get the message across. Also, this has nothing to do with being African American.
About quoting/discrimination "we are African Americans" .
Grow up Mayor Pitre, we have an African American in the White House (and no, he is not a houseboy) - Charlotte Thib

I understand he will not pay because he thinks the law is unfair. Well, I think the state income tax is unfair! So, does that mean I don't have to pay state income tax?

Mayor of Washington "as an African American"

Say what? Why didn't the Housing Authority think of that one? - Spudnik

Hey Bubba, maybe they actually like cars in Washington! If you get enough tickets in Washington, maybe they take the car away from you and sell it as another source of town revenue. ;) - Dudley E. LaBauve, III

Yes the state legislature hates black people. I guess they are on to us now... What an idiot. The city of Washington hate cars... I have proof... they keep pulling them over. Conspiracy? Yes. - Bubba Boudreaux

The Town of Washington has been using speed traps as a way to fund it's town government for decades. It's obvious that Washington extended it's town limits to capture the income and only has a "city limit" sign posted on the interstate. Since their speed is designed to generate town revenues, I hope they could at least plant a tree and provide a bench adjacent to the overpass to provide the public with something is it paying for. Their argument would work if their town was affected in any way by the interstate traffic. Although the town is quaint and has a nice little restaurant, I stopped going to Washington because of it's speed scam. - Fair Play

Does it always have to be about color? When getting free hand outs you never hear them scream, but when they get caught from getting it trouble it's "racially discriminating". GROW UP! - Anonymous
