Aaron,I here you. Why don't they pass a law that lobbyist can't speak to legislators during the session. Because the legislators like the free meals and drinks. I always said if you want to pass a law don't call your senator or rep. Hire a lobbyist instead of giving the campaign donation. I agree with you that this is an issue unsolved. - wow

Be careful doing away with lobbyists. Lobbying is also how minorities, environmentalists, and small grass roots groups influence the legislative process. I don't see how to separate lobbying from free speech. Once again, people have freedom to do things, others don't like how they exercise those freedoms, so someone proposes taking away freedoms. That's a Recurring theme around here. - ragin_cajun

To the commenter named "wow", I think you're missing the point. The story is about lobbyists and their affect on the legislative process. The story could be about rent to own lots or nuns giving away cars, it doesn't matter. If there is someone who disagrees with a bill and has enough cash and desire they can have enormous influence on the outcome. - Aaron

Does Joey care about this Bill? I would think sleezy rent to own car dealers would buy their fair share of PORN. Not to mention the people they do business with should walk. There is a reason they can't get a lone from real lenders. A bill to help these people stay in business is a disgrase. I would rather legalize porn in Lafayette again. - wow

Lobbyists are terrible for democracy and should be done away with by having candidates swear an oath not to deal with lobbyists. If they refuse to swear an oath, they don't get my vote. - Nix

It's important to note that after day 57, Senate rules require a 2/3 vote to pull the bill off the calendar in order to be debated and voted on. 19 Senators voted yeah to do so. They are: Chaisson, Adley, Appel, Chabert, Claitor
Crowe, LaFleur, Long, Martiny, Michot, Mills, Morrell, Morrish, Mount, Perry, Riser, Shaw, Smith, Walsworth.

The other 16 Senators were obviously persuaded by the lobbyist that we hired. They are: Alario, Broome, Cheek, Donahue, Dorsey, Gautreaux, Heitmeier, Jackson, Kostelka, McPherson, Murray, Nevers, Peterson, Quinn, Thompson, Willard-Lewis. - John Garner of SEADRA

What? Nothing about Michot, Landry and JoDu trying to get Lafayette Parish government an exemption to sell porn? - Leadership Lafayette
