If Jindal is serious about saving money and reducing state employees, then let him grow a pair and merge Southern and LSU and Grambling and La. Tech.Put the LSU law school and graduate programs at the Southern Campus and move all under graduates to LSU main Campus. Think of the saving on professors and the elimination of the Southern Board of Supervisors. We shouldn't have any college known as a black college. That should have ended with Brown vs Board of Education.Time for the Governor and the legislature to grow a pair.No nuts and no guts.Consolidation of Universities needs to be done and the sooner the better.Hard economic times certainly justifies the consolidation. - AGLandry

Privatization is usually a bad idea for everyone involved except for the investors of the company taking over. Just because someone is willing to sell you something doesn't make it a good idea to buy. Government abdicating to private companies isn't capitalism, it's cronyism. There are many things that government can and should handle on its own, for the sake of taxpayers. This isn't socialism, it's common sense. - nobody

Another case for "Change We Can Believe In." Save the state money by raiding responsibly run programs, me thinks. I'm reminded, if memory serves me, of Edward's attempt to get the Teachers retirement system into the state employees retirement system. - drofwarc

Lafayette privatized the waste pickup over 30 years ago. It's changed providers at least once.

Privatizing government functions is a step away from bureaucratic nightmares because you can fire the incompetent.

As to premiums going up, that's a given, especially with Obama care. So Walter, stop your fear mongering.

By the way, let's privatized LUS. - William Morvant
