Smart move Rickey. As other posts say, it is not about the money and buying elections. If not Jan Heymann would have won the 80s city council election against Kathleen Blanco. And more recently, former eBay CEO Meg Whitman would be California Governor.

Rickey is a smart and honest person. He will win by a landslide. - Charlotte Thib

Let's see, if Rickey washes all the vehicles and cuts all the lawns of Joey and his friends in about two weeks he will have all the money he needs for his campaign. Overpriced carwashes and lawn care services to fund the campaign, smart Rickey! Nice undercover move by the BRIGHTEST politician Lafayette has ever seen. Can't wait for four more years of your weekly comic segment on the local news broadcasts. - beheard

If you knew anything about local politics, you would know money is not needed to win an election in this district. He's smart to refuse it. It's not needed. Besides, many of his constituents are among the poorest is the parish. They don't have money to donate to a politician, but they still want representation like the rest of us do. Most of the people who would give him money don't vote in his district.

To win in District 44 it takes shoe leather, hand-grabbing, face to face interaction, living among your constituents in the heart of Truman, and being like the constituents of your district who live in McComb Veazey, Debaillion, The Zip, Simcoe, Four Corners, Freetown, etc. And like the first time Mr. Hardy was elected, the white conservative voters who live in the Girard Park/Upper Lafayette neighborhoods will carry him over the top once again cause they like his honesty, outspokenness, willingness to fight corruption and common sense middle class legislative agenda based on fighting for what is right.

Shoe leather. Not money. It's that simple. - Cajunhiker

There are three types of people, the doers and the donothings (LIKE Durel) there are also the third types who make it their small minded business to diss the first type of people like Ricky Hardy, Rickey is a DOER unlike the puppets who don the city council with the Paris trips courtesy of Joey for passing his and his cronys agendas. - NORTHSIDIAN SHOTGUN

As of 1/25/11, Hardy was showing $12K cash on hand. He may have had a fundraiser since then. - The Answer Is.

I was sitting here reading these silly posts and the story by Wally Pierce begs a simple epilogue:

Everytime a good, honest man like Rickey Hardy comes along you have people who cannot comprehend and/or appreciate the level of decency he brings to the table. There's an old saying that applies to both Rickey Hardy and Muhammad Ali, "If you can do it, it ain't braggin'." Rickey Hardy has no need to brag for he's accomplished all that he has set out to do and more. Give me a straight forward honest man who is confident about that which he sets out to do, and he'll prove over and over that he's a winner. Rickey Hardy is a proven winner. - The problem is...

Hardy or Ali? yesidoknow getting all couillon so he must be a reletive. - Who's on first.

Walter, I just have to ask....so how much does Ricky Hardy have in his campaign war chest, and where did it come from?

You're a pro. Surely you must have asked yourself those questions when you wrote this? - ragin_cajun

He's talking about the Muhammad Ali who stood up to the federal government regarding the Vietnam War, spent time in jail for his religious beliefs, had his boxing title and license wrongfully taken from him, but who was later exonerated by the United States Supreme Court. Come election time, we're going to see "who's on first", and then there will be hell to pay. - yesidoknow

Which Muhammad Ali is he comparing himself to? The Muhammad Ali who was pounded by Larry Holmes, or the Muhammad Ali who was pounded by Trevor Berbick? Like Ali, Hardy is way past his prime. Come to think of it, did Hardy ever have a prime? He's making boucoup mistakes, just like an over the hill Ali. - Who's on first.
