Every, and I do mean every, politician I have known who served in the state House for at least two terms will eventually tell you how if they had been there one more term, they would have been speaker of the house. Although I love him him and wish him nothing but the best, Ernie is one of those guys. So for Ernie, the chance to strike back at those he perceived as wronging him and at the same time keeping someone else out of the speaker's chair is just too much to resist.
