I find myself concurring with the many sentiments expressed here. I just do not understand our Governor anymore! I voted for him. I was proud to vote for a man, who came from such an illustrious Indian family, I suspect of the Brahmanic caste. I adore his wife. I find her beautiful, sensitive, and smart. Governor Jindal has fine academic credentials from Brown University and Oxford University (New College, Oxford). I can only conclude that he has savage, ruthless business donors, who are his taskmasters. To inflict unnecessary malice, cruelty and suffering on our people violate the moral order! Perchance, he believes in Indic reincarnation, where suffering and misery in this life, earns you the capacity to be reborn in a better social caste the next time. Also, I want to add a comment about Social Security for the benefit of the larger readership here. It was an East Prussian Chancellor of the German Empire, who created the first Welfare [Old English, 'wel' "well" + 'faran' "to get along"] State, Otto Eduard Leopold von Bismarck (1815-1898), in world history. He was an arch-conservative Royalist. This happened when he authored and passed the Social Insurance and Pension Plan in Germany in 1889 [Insurance Act, 1889, Reichs-Gesetzblatt, No. 13]. Why did he do this? It was for three reasons: (1.) to stop deadly street riots; (2.) to stop the flow of German youth to America, draining the Empire of its German youth; and (3.) to have the necessary masculine manpower to build Germany's industrial might. He, also, very cleverly realized that there would periodically imbalances in the population demographics of old retired workers and the work force. He made provisions for government to add funds to the system to keep it viable. What did we do here? We not only raided the funds, we never replenished the coffers governmentally by tax funds. Our system was too successful! It built up huge funds. Now with 64 million Baby Boomers retiring and ready to retire, our political moral crimes are catching up with us! Lastly, one should impart a note of optimism about our future here. In July, 2011, our national debt is $14.3 Trillion Dollars. To conceptualize what a Trillion Dollars means mathematically, merely remember a thousand $1,000.00 bills represents a Million Dollars. A thousand $1 Million bills represent a Billion Dollars. [Are you seeing a mathematical pattern here?] And, a thousand $1 Billion Dollars bills represents a Trillion Dollars. Of this "trivial" [used intentional] $14.3 Trillion Dollars owed, America owes foreigners $4.5 Trillion Dollars. America owes America $9.8 Trillion Dollars! What we have going on here are two very different economies: the Financial Economy (40%) & Main Street Economy (60%). The first has nothing to do with "real" economics---How we actually stay alive! It is merely a manipulation of financial instruments. This is what destroys actual economic systems! Now the note of optimism: We presently require $5 Trillion Dollars of investment in our human capital and its projects to produce the next stage in human survival on Planet Earth. That is five thousand $1 Billion Dollar bills! Remember, exploiting our non-sustainable natural resources is not where the action is for this century! It is human capital---Innovation, Imagination, Institutions, Infrastructure, & Investment! Let us not forget, we are upper-ape, complex-culture primates that only 10,000 years ago worshipped the Moon on all fours.
