LaFonda customer since 1965, almost weekly since 1982. I am absolutely positive some of the food has diminished in quality. I found LaFonda to be a unique restaurant because of the chips and dip, the nachos, the enchiladas, the margaritas, the service, and the patrons. About 15 years ago there was a slight change in the nachos and enchiladas because of the cheese blend, but nothing like the change in the past few months. The chips are terrible, which affects the chip/dip combo as well as the nachos. The cheese blend has changed for the worse again which affects both the nachos and the enchiladas. The beef and cheese nachos and beef enchiladas seem "watery" and just don't taste right. As I finished my meal last week, I sadly wondered if this would be my last meal at my all-time favorite restaurant. The issue between Gabe and the Cox children have nothing to do with whether or not I will frequent LaFonda. The margaritas, the patrons, the service, and the glory years will not matter if the food is sub-standard. The caricatures on the wall will fade, the noise will abate, and the great LaFonda that once defined the social fabric of Lafayette, the great LaFonda that silently witnessed the creation and dissolution of so many relationships, so much happiness and heartbreak, will slide into social irrelevance. - Neutral Observer

I think , after reading the many posts, that the commenting public doesnt really know what hapened and maybey never will. I see a one sided story . If the cox children didnt comment they chose not to comment realizing that it would oonly serve to fuel the paper and comments and not resolve anything at all. Resolve will come between Gabe and the cox children. Whether gabe knew Lee Bob that well or not really isnt the point. Whether he poured his life into this restaurant, isnt the issue. Lee Bo started this establishment on pennies and made nothing for many many years. Sweat equity? Well i happen to know this is a term Lee Bo cox supported. If Gabe is to make it ten he will. To constantly shoot at him or the cox children is a tradgedy and coward like. Let them settle their issues and both move on. Whether food was taken, patrons treated badly or not, they both deserve the chance to prove themselves to this community. Fueling the fight through a paper is not the thing to do. Of course both are getting free advertisement at this point. Good and bad. I know the cox children elected not to respond. Good for them. They have taken the high ground by not respoonding. I think they did the correct thing. This he said /you said/they said only serves to allow the public to voice opinions. They are just that. Opinions. I suggest no one knows the real story and never will from either side. In any event lets wait and see what happens with both. Time will tell. - Anom

leslie d, how is this for real names ? and you can hide behind your split tail all day long.
Update : Sept. 30 dinner, party of 10 , so many loyal patrons at Lafonda's surely an indication of whats to remain as the busiest gatherig place in the state.
The food remains as good as any, from lafayette to San Antonio. I happen to know who were the first cooks at Lafonda's and I know that Lafonda's fare has not changed one whit. And if anyone wants a wee bit of action,
I have a thousand bucks against a Meche's donut that there will definitely occur a resurgence of loyal Lafonda's clientele to its doors, moreso in light of the thrash talk from Ex-employees Lafonda's. AS usual Stephanie continues as the perfect hostess, classy little lady front and center. - ciano leal

Snaildarter, Mi Madre taught me to respect all, primarily womanhood, but Mi Padre taught me to stand up for just and to nail whoever attempts to run over me, between the eyes.
Also, I have yet to meet a Lady commenting on this article, today nothing but rabid she dogs, namely bitches.
Now this is as squeeky clean as I can put it.
leslie, a man gives due respect to whomever deserves the respect, and a man does not limit his respect to gender, or reserved for either gender. Maybe if you understood spanish especially the thrashy gutter talk of the street people, you could have understood the filth from this thrashy mouth woman. - CIANO LEAL

Wow! So many opinions and speculation. No one will ever know what really happened until Gabe, Stephanie, and Sherwood allow the truth to be known, if they choose to do that. I have learned there are always two sides to every story so i would think boith sides have merit no matter what anyone writes. It is what it is and thats that. Lafondas has a solid following and it is not because gabe was there or Stepahnie came back. Lafondas is an icon in Lafayette and was made by lebob cox, his vision , his many patrons over the years, and hard work. Many come and many go in a businesses life cycle. A good business always survives no matter what opinions you may read. Stephanie and Sherwood are his only heirs. Coming back to Lafayette to run her fathers legacy, im sure, was a huge commitment. I am sure her father knew what he was doing when he left his kids with a balancing vote on the board. That was set up by him. Obviously he did that for his own reasons. Whether we agree or disagree, it really doesnt matter. I suggest everyone wait and see how things turn out. I believe, at the end of the day, that Gabe will have what he has always wanted, and the kids will have what is rightfully theirs and what they paid a dear price for while growing up.(No One can understand that but them). So lets all calm down and wait and see. Lafayette is a very good town and will support thiose who offer good products and work hard at their business. Tthere are no give mes in lafayette. Yoiu have to earn it. If you do this town is very loyal.
Good luck to all (Stepahnie, Sherwood, Gabe) - Anom

So it looks like the Ind puts crude, vulgar language into print if they can credit it to someone else. Can't edit the Latina when one is so hip and fair and open-minded. But the truth about this town gets diced and Pasteurized. - snaildarter

The author didn't say don't have an opinion She said "keep it civil". THe article did not attack anyone it simply stated what happened. But people tend to put their own personal spin on things and coming on here and making backhanded comments really does no good for anyone. It doesn't make either party look good and as the article said people were asked to speak and they said they did not have time for it or simply said no. So rather than turning this into a personal vendetta why not just take the article for what it is and let it go? That's just my opinion. - K
