Mills: took a drive thru and see a lot of improvement out there. Just like you say. Lots of nice old fashioned places getting turned around. Tells Brandon's lie that this area somehow needed some help and what a laugh, AOC could be the "start" of improvements. FOOLS! Does brandon even know yall? Seems like the only thing they done with our tax dollars is tear down some neat old houses. Lots of money gone, still asking for more money, houses lost and not a dang thing built yet! The good thing is the neighborhood is easier to drive through now without the thugs in the streets or sitting around harassing people. Might even take a walk thru next week! Ya'll sittin' pretty now. Good luck!! - historyonyx

Durel, pretending to give 1/2 a rat's a$$, was stirred to fire the former LHA board. If he doesn't shake up this board and get rid of the conflicts of interest and prevent this double payment of tax money on a losing project, then his action with the LHA was really just to set himself up to control the vast amount of funds available (for he and friends) and dump all poverty projects on north Lafayette. (See 5 year consolidated plan) VOTE FOR STAGG and send DUREL handlers a message that he will not survive in state politics for these antics! Poverty Industry construction will not hide the years of neglect of Upper Lafayette under his administration. - realitycheck

Greg Gachassin board member of LPTFA purchases property on Moss Street for future development as a tax credit project in 2006. At this time he was chairman of the Lousiana Housin Finance Agency that issues tax credits. After leaving the LHFA he is awarded the Tax Credit for Villa Gardens from the LHFA from which he once served. Richard Becker is the attorney for LPTFA and he is the attorney for all of Greg Gachassin tax developments. Greg and Becker were involved with tax credits for Lafayette Housing (Federal Investigation)
AOC (Which is so messed up and broke and I am sure will be investigated) And then there is Angel Cove Development, this one has some shaddy characters in it. Do we see a pattern here. Yes we do have WHITE Poverty Pimpsters they just wear a suit and tie. I challenge the administration to push this investigation as hard as they have been pushing housing. - Pawn in the game of life

North!! Different group! See websites for the players here, like, as you would put it perhaps: Decker's One Stop Shoppin Law firm and the Architect Angel. See also AOC listing of board of directors, Giles-the other used car like Shelvinman, call the Doctor LaSala, Bobo Billeaud, the Bankerman, General Hospitalman.... ok, so I don't have your gift for poetry.... but, you gotta call out the right folks! Who's the Gnome anyway? - realitycheck

This story just keeps getting better and better. When are these people going to be put in jail. Who are the members of the board that made these bad things happen? - ben

Joey Durel and henchmen, Zooschlag, Gaschassin, The Gnome, the Yellow Page Attorney, and lackey Don Bertrand, these couillions should all be indicted and made to show how they cut the "PIE.
All these commentators are finally wising up to the fact that there is a funneling of tax payers money by the couillions mentioned above, Ga it took long enough to be hearing these voices - NORTHSIDIAN SHOTGUN

Compassionate, you need to check your facts. Don Bertrand is always looking out for the taxpayers and their hard-earned income.

That is why he continually supports higher taxes.
That is why he continually supports handing out free public tax dollars to NGOs, like Acadiana Outreach.
That is why he actually wants to increase government subsidizing of NGOs with public tax dollars.

Don Bertrand, a friend of the taxpayers. - RCajunrunner

Wait, soon Ricky Hardy will have a true friend with hin in the legislature, when Stuart Bishop gets sworn in. If the others who have been there and done nothing will get on his coat tail and ride, he will put Lafayette back on the map. On his watch people stealing public money will be exposed. - wait

Hey Confused,

You asked about Don Bertrand "Isn't he normally one to ask questions and look out for Lafayette taxpayers' money?"

In a word: No

Thank GOD that this thing, this albatross, this horrendous conception may have finally met its demise. A terrible idea from the get-go and legions of do gooders, green luvrz, pseudo libs and 'agents of change' bought into it. The voices of dissent were labeled as racist, hyperbolic, black clouds wanting a "River Ranch" (oh, if they'd even know how far from truth that statement is--and that statement was straight from Mr. Gachassin himself, fyi).

Good riddance, AOC. Your previous management was not the issue and you know it. Your entity built under the guise of "rebuilding shattered lives", did nothing but erode the very fabric of this wonderful community. Please be done with your damage and move on. Quickly. And please don't go and maraud another community as you've done here.

Attn Private Developers: Mills Addition is far more wonderful than our pals at AOC chose to spin {as blighted, of course}. We have a super strong network of neighbors who believe in this place, others are buying and reinvesting, UL is building the Event Home (which, from what I gather is pre-sold) businesses are cropping up and best of all? Affordable downtown real estate for you to hang your shingle and make a profit. Yes, a profit. Not to be confused with a non-profit. Move fast, because someone else will.

Though most residents in the area have spoken out publicly in favor of the project, it has met significant resistance from some neighbors.

WRONGO!! Opponents comprised a large geographic area surrounding the "campus" and voiced their opinions through attorneys representing them. They include a number of downtown business owners. Their names were simply never read into the record and TheInd is too lazy to look into it(but, Claire Taylor has looked into and has it right) Would be investors have heard them, no doubt. Most people in favor were associated directly with AOC, don't live or work nearby, are uninvolved cheerleaders and noninvested persons. If 50+ nearby and property owning residents and business people signed the opposition, you can bet there is a much greater number of people oppossed who felt they could not sign for certain and important reasons. - realitycheck

I'm surprised Don Bertrand didn't ask questions and investigate with due diligence before voting to approve this project. Isn't he normally one to ask questions and look out for Lafayette taxpayers' money? - confused

Same old story same old crowd, all contributors to Joey Durrell and his ”rubberstamp 7” council members. The only player missing is the Lafayette Chamber of Commerce. But I am sure those players are in the background pulling the strings. - R. Reagan

LPTFA, LNEDC, LHA --- the alphabet soup of corruption and cronyism. And all the usual suspects in the line-up -- Becker, Gachassin, Williams, Dennis, Freeman. Who's lookin' out for the taxpayer? Where's the oversight from our elected officials -- Mayor, LCG, DA...anybody???
This is a rocky horror show, but forget the time warp --- let's do the perp walk with these clowns and their cronies!! - Ophelia 46
