The Pig Stand is known for their Fried Pickles, at one time they served a great hot dog, this was 40 years ago.
One thing I quickly recalled when reading this article, it seems that the Ville Platte/Opelousas area has a lead on any other area of its size in the state for slow Learnts, as told to me by local residents and this is due to a longstanding tradition by those same earliest Familys in the area of marrying within the same family tree, now this was told to me many times by different residents in the area, the old family names are truly in abundance, in the Ville Platte/Opelousas area, this practice is moreso common than in any other part of the state, I was told the high incidence of suicides in the area is also an age old unchanged problem, because of the closeness of these communitys, I dare say of populating within their own familys. - NORTHSIDIAN SHOTGUN

I went to the Pig Stand once over 30 years ago. I asked for the specialty bbq pork sandwich. What I got was a couple pieces of tough dry pork on a hamburger bun with a little bbq sauce thown on it. I had heard about what a great bbq place it was for so long and was really expecting a great sandwich. I have not been back there since. Too bad the current owners got in all this trouble. Sounds like they need to watch out who their "friends" are. - jabbajaw

It never fails that IF a false charge is made against someone, they will spend years getting rid of the rumors that are associated with the charges, even when they are innocent. In this case, some will will still believe the charges (even if they are false), and others will understand that mistakes were made.

I know of a gentleman who was accused of rape, and while he was in jail awaiting trial, the victim also accused two others. At trials, it was learned that NONE of the three were where the rape supposedly had happened nor at the time it allegedly happened. All three had independent alibis, which meant that they could not have done it. It was later learned that the police had prodded her with so many questions that she "just wanted to get out". How many truly innocent are sitting in jail because of shoddy police work? - jdmeaux

Thank you for the info on the bbq sauce. We still use it, have converted people from Tx to S. Carolina to Belgium! And Kary's Roux is a favorite staple too. My dad was very funny about roux, so when he approved of Kary's, we knew it was okay.

Does anyone know if Pig Stand Barbeque sauce is stil belongs to the eatery or did the original owners keep rights to the sauce? If the sauce went with the store, it would be nice to know I could suport these people by using the sauce.

And, I have an absolute "tolerance", appreciation for, and acceptance of "his type" & know many people who do. I have not idea why "gay pride" would come up this THIS CONVERSATION; talk about off topic! I think more people are supportive than are against it. I don't see where "those types" are trying to take away anything from the rest of the population. Its not as if "those types" are trying to recruit anyone; in fact they rarely try to cause anyone any discomfort. Again, why off topic?

I appreciate coverage on this unfortunate couple. I appreciate knowing the story behind the story. First, I thought this story was about the original owners of the Pig Stand. Ville Platte has a reputation of being a very closed community. My dad grew up there, & when he was discharged from the Army after the Korean conflict, he couldn't wait to get out of there. We visited family for many, many yrs, every other weekend, till both grandparents died. Laf was much more progressive & had better career opportunities & Pop always knew, remembered and spoke of how closed V.P. continues to be. And in spite of some minute progress, its not a welcoming community or a progressive one. It has one of the best medical centers in the state, and some of the same property owners for generations, as far back as the original Acadians. Those people don't want things to change & really resent anyone who tries. They don't care whether the community kids get an education because they send their children to private schools; many in Opelousas, including schools "they" started in the 70s to avoid intergration. There is absolutely still "the plantation" mentality domiinant in Ville Platte. The "curfew" that community imposed was only very recently struck down because it was strictly racial profilling. And yet, if you're accepted, you could not ask for nicer, more caring people, as long as its "their own". The Pig Stand barbeque is and has been some of the best in the South. Daddy used to bring home plate lunches when he was in the area, along with cases of Pig Stand Barbeque Sauce, which our family & extended family favors today. I wish these people the best; they sound as if they deserve it. They have misjudged many people and have been misjudged themselves. - Honor

This is really sad. Makes me want to drive to Ville Platte and eat at the Pig Stand to show support. I hope I get the chance to. - Jameson

@jmllaf

Most people including myself are homophobes and don't have an abundance of tolerance for your type. Do you think getting in everyone's face with the gay agenda is going to do anything good for your "movement?" - jabbajaw

At last, justice did prevail, but the repercussions, well, I guess that's the real hell here. The Giglios have done nothing but help people in the community, and look at the price they have paid. Shame on you who thought they were guilty before having the facts! - dacajunone

So, in our vigorous efforts to protect kids and give child abusers what-fer, we've developed a system that can be easily abused.

"The three young girls involved in the case are the children of a former Pig Stand employee who was battling a drug problem." Sounds like the Giglios got "revenged" for trying to help.

So for every couple of cases like Hurst and Hargrave, you get a case like the Giglios' where the "system" goes medieval on innocent people.

Sad, sad sad. - snaildarter

What is with the Indpendent's repeated coverage of people who have had run-ins with the law? Every other week there's a story about some prosecutor or law enforcement making a mistake. Why?
