This is not over. I am quite sure that this vote was made as an election safeguard. Im quite sure the people of the same neighborhood will be outraged again and real soon. It is really naive to think that most of these guys wanted to win solely because they really cared about the welfare of this wonderful city. Like they on the NFL network COME on MAN!?!?!? - nothing to do

To your comment, "Theriot works for government in private business [as manager for the Milton Water District]"

Milton Water is a Non-Profit organization that is wholely owned by its customers and controlled by a Board of Directors made up of said Customers. Furthermore, Milton Water System has taken little, if any, Government Grants since its inception so to suggest that Mr. Theriot works for "Government in Private Business" is rediculous. The only tie that MWS has to anything remotely Gov't related is their wholesale agreement with LUS which is much like the ones LUS has also entered into with Total Environmental Solutions Inc.(TESi) and Water/WasteWater Utilities Inc. Both also privately held companies. Thank You Sir, Good Day. - Outsider...

who's the most evil? It's a dictionary word.

“The people that hate Cravins in Opelousas are supporting him to get rid of him, to send him back to Baton Rouge,” says one north Lafayette political observer.

The people in Opelousas are hoping this mayor would stop pretending he lives in Opelousas, instead of Arnauldville. We don't want him to be our senator, given his lies about residing in Opelousas. We want him to stay here amongst the little people, hiring and firing, Civil Service be damned. Involvement with Housing Authorities, ole Floyd Anderson contracts. We want him to stay here in his little hell, where he has to answer to the voters. Not that he answers his phones. But last year, after claiming he had no intention of running for Senate office while running for mayor, seems like a lie.
His little hell, is being stuck in some burg mayor job (in his mind). - Phil N deBlanc

Not sure the revocation of the transfer permits would not have passed anyway but doubt it would have been unanimous if the elections weren't this weekend. This is the one week out of a four-year cycle when all elected officials hear the voices of what a BP executive once called "the small people." The failure of Lafayette government was not only the revocation of lawful permits (for the second time) but in not providing in the permitting process a genuine opportunity for those most affected to heard.
Scew up once, shame on you. Screw up twice, shame on us. - rambeaux rawlings

Rode by Sunbeam Ln last nite. Can you cross those tracks? How do you get to the construction site? Well, the whole area is one industry after another. I'm not sure how the transfer site will be constructed. If its enclosed, there shouldn't be much smell. All the industry around there should smell. Couldn't be more smelly than the PooPoo Plant on Am Caff next to Broadmoor & Fernewood, so the neighborhood can't claim discrimination... I wondered if the esteemed council has even driven to see the site. How do you get to the site??? The one thing I do know is, this did not come up in 3 weeks. People affected may not have known, but there's someone in the administration that should have called for hearings. Shelvin HIMSELF should have known & met with his district! The council is running scared, but this was the wrong decision, & they might not get a chance to rectify it. - BoFred

Don --

Great point. Just buy 'em all out, turn the whole area into an industrial park. These people all live RIGHT NEXT to the train yard, right? - ragin_cajun

As someone who is familiar with the Jones campaign, I can assure you that Mrs. Jones is in this race to be State Representative for District 44 only. She has no plans whatsoever to run for Judge Rubin's seat or any other District Judge seat. This so called North Lafayette political insider has no connections to the Jones campaign and quite frankly don't know what they ate talking about. I'm sure this political insider has come straight out of the mouth of a Pierre/Hardy supporter. Independent Weekly please learn responsible journalism and stop writing rumor based fiction. Review last Sunday's Advertiser and learn real political reporting. - No-nonsense

It would have been cheaper in the long run to relocate all the residents from that "residential area" to River Ranch then pay the massive legal fees and judgments that the lawsuit is going to bring. - Don Corleone

The referendum on Durel will be the vote for Durel (75-25). If the vote on Patin is about Durel, so is it in Bertrand's district, who will win decisively, and Bellard who will lose decisively. Durel gets more votes than either of the candidates in district 8. - Referendumly Speaking...

Stacie, after the fact is too late to make noise. I know I'd crowd that council meeting room way before construction started.... - Hope

@ Hope, Lets put a S**t pile in your backyard and see if you feel the same way???? That type of construction in a residential area should never have been approved in the first place. I will Agree that yes ALL OF THEM need to be replaced, however last nights decision was one of the very very few good decisions made by the council. Let the litigation begin!! - Stacie

What the council did last night, halting construction that has already begun, preventing many businesses from conducting their rightful business, resulting in litigation that will cost taxpayers MILLIONS & MILLIONS of $$$$, is all the proof voters should need to vote all the sitting yahoos OUT !!! ALL OF THEM, INCLUDING THE ADMINISTRATION, should be replaced for making such bad decisions. - Hope
