			<description>Okay, fellas, I'm beginning to get a whiff of something real stinky &amp; it ain't the garbage that's going to go to that site.  Its the stink of back door deals &amp; steals.  I finally understand the 17 acres rule &amp; the &quot;unincorporated&quot; clause.  I say let the games begin!  If taxpayer money has to be diverted, &amp; its the &quot;honchos&quot; who concocted what is rumored, then the City of Laf's population is going to be really P'd to know how their city coffers will be spent.  Every day I hear about how the world is going to hell in a handbasket cause kids can't pray in schools.  It remains to be seen if this will reveal itself, if it proves to be illegal or just immoral, but it involves some people who probably prayed in their schools.  I bring up prayer because I pray deep down in my heart that the truth be revealed; that those who have participated in any insider deals be revealed to be the scoundrels they are for preying on the weak. I'm reminded of &quot;absolute power corrupts absolutely&quot;, but if there is corruption taking place, I pray it is revealed for the filth that it is.   - BoFred</description>

Think about hosting an International Festival on a hot and steamy day?!! Parish outskirts of south Lafayette would be closer to New Iberia and make more sense than this location.

			<description>Again....I wish those who commented on this situation would first at least take time to learn the facts:

* The director of zoning said the 1st anyone knew about it was Jan 28, 2011.  Henry Perret said Savoy had been working on this project with zoning since 2010.

* Residents had no way of knowing about this until ground was broken.  Zoning officials did not tell council members, much less residents and business owners.  Whether the intentionally hid the project, or were so incompetent they didn't realize they should tell someone is yet to be determined.

* One doesn't have to be a conspiracy wacko to know something is going on when

 - Bacque buys a lot from a Savoy company a week after he sells them the controversial property
 - Savoy's attorney said Waste Faclities has been working on this since 2010, but no council member was told about it until September 2011.  Waste Facilities did not exist until May, 2011 and didn't own the land until July 2011.
 - Durel and Savoy have an open transaction on a $850,000 land deal in River Ranch.
 - Durel does not attend either council meeting on the issue
 - Mike Hebert, appointed by Durel, issues a 'legal opinion' which only points out unsubstantiated risks to the city and council members individually, but said nothing about either of those risks when the city switched zoning on the Greyhound station.
 - Lafayette's garbage contract is up in 2013
 - Bacque was on the commission that created a grandfather clause that exempted property under 17 acres in unincorporated areas from planning authority...this property is a little over 16 acres.
 - Waste Facilities DID NOT follow the proper process as noted in earlier posts.  They were given a building permit without following required DEQ and city/parish regulations.

This has NOTHING to do with Stagg.  Stagg has only offered some possible answers to why Waste Facilities was able to hide their project from the council and residents and get a permit without following the laws of the state and parish.  If his answer doesn't satisfy you, please offer another.

Stop blaming the victims in this situation.  Bacque HAD to know what was going on if Savoy was working on a permit for his property in 2010.  Planning knew, Bacque knew, Savoy knew.  The council and residents had no way of knowing until ground was broken. 

Durel has not made a public statement on whether he knew about the facility before the permit was issued, but do you really think his zoning department was working on putting in a garbage station in the city with a good friend of his who owes him $600,000 and he didn't know?

			<description>All you conspiracy theorists need to check out your facts before jumping on the Mike Stagg's bandwagon, because you're likely to drown in the ridiculousness of his claims.  Don Bacque is a well respected man and veteran, with a history of great and honest service to our city, our state and our country.  Lest we forget who, as an independent state representative, stood up and spoke against the swearing in of David Duke in the state legislator.  It was Don Bacque.  

Don was not the sole owner of the property on Sun Beam lane, it was also owned by his two brothers, who are also very well respected and honest men known throughout Lafayette.  Last time I checked, it is perfectly legal to sell property you own; regardless of what the buyer decides legally to put on said property.  Like any property owner in this city or parish, they have every right to sell their property to whoever is willing to pay the most.  There were no back door deals being made.  

As much as I feel for the residents near Sun Beam lane, it is their responsibility to keep up with the developments in their area that may negatively effect their property values, especially if you are make substantial home investments near unincorporated areas of the parish.  One drive down Sun Beam lane is all that is needed to see that it clearly mirrors a commercial/industrial zone.  It is unfortunate that these residents live in Brandon Shelvin's district, as this waste facility didn't become an issue for the Thrifty Man until close proximity to election time.  This whole situation could've been avoided had Mr. Shelvin kept tabs on what was going on in his district or actually returned his constituents phone calls.  

While I can't speak for Savoy and Durel; I know Don Bacque is as honest and reputable man you can find, and is not connected to any of these non-sense claims.  

Stagg can reach all he wants, but his arm is likely to get worn out before Saturday.

Land for the waste facility was sold by Odon Bacque to Waste Facilities of Lafayette LLC on July 6, 2011.  Rodney Savoy (a River Ranch developer) is the manager of Waste Facilities. Bacque bought a lot from River Ranch development on July 11, 2011 valued at $650,000.  River Ranch development may still owe Durel $600,000 on a lot sale to them in 2008 for 850,000.

Mike Hebert, city-parish attorney, and appointed by Durel writes a threatening letter to the council advising them they may be personally liable and the city liable for 'millions'.  No legal opinion was given to the council on how to achieve what they wanted to do, stop the trash facility. The claims in Hebert's letter (millions in damages for the city and personal liability for the council) have been completely discredited by every attorney I have shown them to.

Come on people, connect the dots.  This is not about north side/south side or city/parish.  This is about a doing what's right. - LafayetteForUs</description>

			<description>re treatment plant: yes, but it was a small fraction of what is there now, and it didn't smell.  I rode those roads too.  It was called &quot;Flanders&quot;.  About 10 yrs ago, it took 1 1/2 yrs to build it to the size it is now and Broadmoor was developed, Fernewood was developed, much of the businesses on either side of the bridge was built. It was a tiny building back in the 70s.  Ok, I understand the trucks, the traffic, cause I have to deal with dump trucks, concrete truck &amp; sugar cane trucks.  A lotta people in this parish deal with bad roads &amp; trucks.  I have a friend who had just built her house when a concrete company built a station right across the street from her new home. Its near a subdivision in Milton.  The residents in Riverwood aren't particularly happy to have hear or dodge those concrete trucks. 

For the traffic, I'm wondering if the trucks can enter from another area.  Its 16 1/2 acres, is there another possible entrance, away from the residential area?  There are so many businesses/industrial on Cameron St. &amp; Cameron St. has its fair share of traffic getting from Laf. to Scott, so the area already has a lot of truck traffic...  I feel for the residents.  I believe everyone deserves to know when something like this is coming up &amp; residents share in that responsibility.  I don't know enough about the plans &amp; what this will result in.  I don't know who to hold responsible, but I think Shelvin should have been calling neighborhood meetings long before construction started.  This litigatation will result in millions &amp; millions of dollars in settlements or awards. Not like the $500,000.00 for the Bus terminals. Money used for that litigation will surely prevent paving of streets, drainage programs, etc.  When it comes down to it, that property was permitted, construciton had begun, &amp; at this point, there is no legal way to prevent this project from completion. - BoFred</description>

The sewage treatment plant on Amb. Caffery has been there for well over 30 years.  When I was a kid, it was in the middle of a bunch of fields, St. Thomas More wasn't built yet, Amb. Caffery was a 2 lane blacktop road.  There was nothing but woods for miles around that sewage treatment facility.  

In fact, I don't know, but I'd be willing to bet that sewage facility was built there before Acadiana Mall was built.  

Also, the smell is only part of the problem.  I think, again I don't know, that another big objection is the heavy truck traffic to/from the transfer facility.  Having lived on a road where a neighbor sold acres of topsoil and left a giant pit on his land, I can tell you that a few weeks of heavy truck traffic on a regular old blacktop road is all it takes to make it impassable to cars and light duty pickups.

* &quot;millions&quot; in damages is NONSENSE.  Every lawyer, not on Durel or Savoy's payroll, just laughed at his letter.  Damages can only start after the permit was issued.  The opinion was a joke and a scare tactic.
* Waste Facilities, Ronald Savoy, DID NOT follow rules.  They did not follow the procedure and are still under a no-compliance status with DEQ.
* The people fighting this ARE IN THE CITY LIMITS.  This is an island of unincorporated land fully surrounded by city property
* Durel did not attend either meeting dealing with this issue.   Why?
* Henry Perret, attorney for Waste Facilities, said they have been working with zoning since 2010, the the director says the 1st they heard of it was Feb 28, 2009.  THE 1ST ANYONE ELSE HEARD ABOUT IT WAS SEPT 19, 2011.  Now they want an extension to educate us about it so they can be good neighbors?
* It is a transfer station NOW, BUT there is currently a DEQ proposal being considered which allows transfer stations to sort waste and store on the site!!!  Waste Transfer today, Garbage Dump and Storage tomorrow.

Wake up people!  Those of you not directly affected DO NOT KNOW the full scope of this scam, and how it could affect you in years to come.  Iberia Parish garbage will use Lafayette as a dump.  Is this what you want in your backyard? I think that you should do whatever you can to stop the station so that your neighborhood remains as close to a &quot;residential&quot; area as it is today.  If that means that everyone in town pays up for this, then so be it.

We, the public, get treated to it, regularly, as we travel that road.  The transfer station will not handle sewerage.  Where was the outrage over that?  I wonder if any of those wonder boys on the council have even ridden out to the location to check out what they were talking about...  This should have been deferred for 30 dys for everyone, including the residents &amp; the public not living there, understands what this facility will be for, will accept, will entail...   - BoFred</description>
