I know that some of you who comment here are well educated and have good jobs that allow you to sit around in the afternoon and make your comments on every blog or news site that you can. I would only guess that this is so that your friends will think you’re cool. Others here are college students trapped in the dorm (or at mommies house) dreaming up ideas of how to work the system so you never have to grow up and get a job. Tonight you can tell the blind date that your mother set you up on, that you blogged today. But before you comment on someone why don’t you find out about the person. The truth is here is a young man under 21 who is going to school and who believes in something besides video games and Jackass. He has not influenced an election. We could all look at the others in the media and where they have contributed money to, or we could listen to the stories they choose to do and see what their affiliations are. This all proves why I love free speech. Anyone can say whatever they would like, which helps the sane know who to watch out for. - Donny

It amazes me every single time I manage to force myself to read comments here. ANYTHING that is exposed by the IND is automatically denounced. In this case he fact is that wrong remains wrong. Chris went against the ethics he agreed to as a journalist. PERIOD. You guys can nitpick, attention shift, and so forth all you want, but he shouldn't have done it.

We don't need to hear about someone else in Shreveport for Welty to be guilty of a conflict of interest. People around here need to start looking at the situation 'as is' and of itself, and quit trying to excuse it or tie it into something else, or by bringing Obama into it for no reason whatsoever. That's why everything is corrupt -- no one is interested in solving anything, just blameshifting and trying to excuse it by ridiculous comparisons.

KATC is a joke, I agree. And since they are shown to allow conflicts of interests, I would be interested to see how much money, or what ties, if any, they have to Edwin Edwards, since they continually lobby for his pardon and cover everything he does. If he sneezes, KATC posts a picture of it.

To everyone else: Cherry got a dui -- get over it. Her actions however many months ago, doesn't automatically allow you to erase reality and rewrite it as fiction. A fact remains a fact, regardless of if you like the woman or not. In this case, and in many others, the IND gave you a fact. You can agree with the delivery, that's up to you, but griping about it won't change it's nature. It's still true.

Big deal...I bet if this had been a reporter and working on a Democrat's campaign, we would have heard NOTHING about it in The Ind (or anywhere else for that matter). In the mainstream liberal media you regularly see people work in Democrat's administrations/campaigns, go work as a news reporter, and then a few years later are right back working in another Democrat's administration/campaign all the while maintaining that they are unbiased in their reporting (which at times is so full of liberal spin you would have to be brain dead not to notice). That "Code of Ethics" the UL professor talked about for journalists is regularly violated and is also crap. It has been discovered often enough that these same "unbiased" reporters have given campaign contributions (the VAST majority of which is to Democratic campaigns or liberal causes) and these same "unbiased" reporters get little more than a slap on the wrist for breaking these rules.

Typical double standard!! - Knowledge is Power

Journalism my endangered butt. They publish an exposé on this small-spud newbee's conflict of interest while the big fish go unnoticed on these pages.

Why does not THE IND expose how certain politicians in this berg have a certain radio conglomerate in their back pocket... "wrapped around their finger" as one person who had an inside seat for a short while explained it to me.

You know, those folks who are always inviting us to "join the conversation," or "make our voices heard" so we can be belittled, ridiculed, and /or our state of mental health analyzed...

What concerns me more than his judgement to work for a campaign while working as a reporter is his judgement as a college student to campaign for Bobby Jindal. If he needs the extra money to pay his tuition, as some on this blog have suggested, he can thank his secondary employer considering what Jindal and his crew have tried to do to higher eduction in this state.

We're about to enter the second term of a Governor who wanted to fundraise for national office more than lead our state...in his first term! God help us these next four years when he doesn't have to worry about reelection and it's ALL gonna be about Bobby. - Karl

When people can't recognize a conflict of interest between the media and political interests then either they are too partisan to understand or have no faith in the media...either case is a bad sign for democratic government. - rambeaux rawlings

It's a shame there's no sense of true journalism in Lafayette.. at least THE IND comes close. Probably the brightest journalist in town is in charge of editorial content. Unfortunately, there's no daily source for interesting content. The paper gets thinner and local reporters are replaced with cheap "first job, just above intern" multimedia "news gather-ers.". In this case, an eager beaver is trying to get his feet wet in many places to make a name for himself. He knew he shouldn't have, but whatelse should we expect? Quality journalism flew the coop from KLFY and KATC years ago. Both are small market "sweatshops" where the wealthy end is $24/year ( except the faces). It's no picnic at either station- a hog riding, bottle- lovin operation or the used car salesman with his dingy puppet and decision- making based off the book "Good to Great" where everyone's replaceable (remember Julie Kelley). The show goes on... And so do our lives. - 321

Since when is it unethical for someone who worked their butt off to get paid for a service? He is a freaking COLLEGE STUDENT! And if some of you remember what it was like to go to college and have a career then you would understand. And for crying out loud, what difference is 2,000 dollars going to make when buying a car of that value? NONE WHAT SO EVER. It is a terrible shame that people are trying to ruin a young mans career over this petty crap. He was simply working a second job to help pay some bills. Not once did his second job interfere with his reporting on KATC! - anonymous
