Dump all waste and garbage, HUD, etc. on one side of town so the other prospers. Keep them poor! Stagg did really well for a last minute entry into the race. Think what a real contender could have done. There is still hope to run Durel out of office to make room for a new candidate!!! - historyonyx

"Parish zoning or the Performance Based Land Use Plan as recommended by the LINC committee findings might have stopped this facility"

NOBODY knew anything about the facility until ground was broken. Hank Perret said they had been working on it with planning/zoning since 2010. Eleanor Bouy (head of zoning) said 1st she knew about was when a 3rd party applied for a permit in Feb 2011. All council members and Durel administration have said they didn't know about it until the Advertiser ran a story on it.

Not one city official knew a waste disposal company was working with zoning to put a garbage facility wholly within the city limits of Lafayette from 2010 through September 2011?

Whether Durel or the council knew is a question that will probably be answered in a lawsuit, but we do know that the adjacent landowners had NO WAY to know what was going on until the slab was being poured.

Again, every principal involved in the land deals was either a donor to Durel's campaign (Slavich, Savoy/River Ranch/Waste Facilities), owed Durel money (Saovy/River Ranch/Waste Facilities), or held a public position during that time (Bacque). The project was intentionally hidden from public view util the last minute to avoid it being blocked.

If you don't care that these bums are lining their pockets with your money, OK, I understand that, just say so..but please pretend nothing wrong is going on. - LafayetteForUs

@IM: That would be correct, especially since this is the first time I have heard about it. That aside, I would have been careful to follow the rules so as not to have to pay the consequences later and avoid the appearance of improprieties...Again, as we have seen many times in the past with this administration and LCG, many exceptions/exemptions/amendments can be made if you are politically favorable, so it really is a moot point. - Less Gov

Parish zoning or the Performance Based Land Use Plan as recommended by the LINC committee findings might have stopped this facility...and given the public a chance to give their feedback on it. Bet not one of you have ever contacted their council member on either of these issues.
That being said, Mr. Bacque did nothing wrong. Why challenge his motives? Which of you that had property to sell wouldn't do so if offered the asking price? - IM Jacquemo

Oh, how can a person be so dumb and make such a grand profit on a rat infested piece of ground. Oh Yeah, "the lord works in missterioous ways," May I ask who surveyed that property for the Backup Flys, was it the Festering Festermakerman ? - NORTHSIDIAN SHOTGUN

Don, while i applaude your effort, please don't voluteer any more of your services to us, the city dwellers. You have done enough damage to our city for your biased opinions, and your transaction, while legal, will cost us taxpayers who knows how much money for the impending lawsuit(s). Joey, try to find someone that really wants to help the city. Leave the Hefners, Bacques, Abels, etc. out of the processes from now on. - Southsider

Oh and one more thing, I was apparently under the mistaken impression that the Chamber of Commerce was started to support small business, not to form POLITICAL ACTION COMMITTEES and manipulate our government and attempt to chose our elected officials! - Less Gov

I'd like to hear Mr Bacque's response, LafayettForUs. It's no wonder he sides with Joey and Bruce Conque,(the Chamber of Commerce crowd) they all have the same way of doing business as with RedFlex, the GARBAGE contract and a multitude of other issues that they think "us lower class common folk" are not smart enough to vote on. They conveniently run our government to the benefit of their own ideas, friends and supporters..It's only a shame that there wasn't a more formidable opponent running against the Durel/Chamber of Commerce Regime! - Less Gov

Mr. Bacque was on the consolidation commission that proposed language that grandfathered property from going through the parish planning process other have to follow.

One of the grandfathering criteria was that the property must be under 17 acres. The Bacque plot was 16 acres.

He sold that parcel to Savoy's Waste Facilities of Lafayette, LLC in July. He shortly thereafter bought a lot from another Savoy company.

Waste Facilities of Lafayette, LLC, was then able to begin construction of a garbage facility in an area wholly surrounded by the City of Lafayette without notifying any council members or adjacent residents.

While Mr. Bacque's views on city/parish issues are interesting, and may even have merit, what is more interesting is how he has manipulated the process to his personal gain.

As I have said all along, defeating de-donsolidation was only the first step. I am willing to be involved in the process of fixing the charter, but the administration and council have the ball in their hands for right now. they need to decide how to proceed. It might make sense for Joey to call all of the stakehlders together to discuss it and receive input as to where we go from here. I would suggest that Bruce Conque be inclued in the group as he led a valient effort and has valuable input to offer.
