Durel wants yet another "yes" man and will have that in Doise, an unqualified candidate. Naquin gets my vote and it's not a difficult choice to make in any way. We could use a few real adults in decision making positions since we have so few. Good luck, Mr. Naquin. Many of us out here are in your court! - Benjamin Wetzel

Appropriate for all "discussions" involving the Durel "Administration:"

"Unless a man has a philosophy certain horrible things will happen to him. He will be practical; he will be progressive; he will cultivate efficiency; he will trust in evolution; he will do the work that lies nearest; he will devote himself to deeds, not words. Thus struck down by blow after blow of blind stupidity and random fate, he will stagger on to a miserable death with no comfort but a series of catchwords ...
— G. K. Chesterton. From one of 67 Chesterton essays in the recently published volume, In Defense Of Sanity: The Best Essays of G.K. Chesterton, edited by Dale Ahlquist, Joseph Pearce, and Aidan Mackey.

Many years ago there was a huge effort to CONSERVE the French Heritage of the area. How much of Lafayette Heritage and Quality is being or will be lost in Durel 's Progressivist push ("Move forward:" but in which direction, towards what?)

What happens in the future when Lafayette becomes more like Baton Rouge or New Orleans, when Lafayette becomes a big-time city with big-time corruption and crime?

What gets lost in the process? (Besides the middle class being pushed out, causing even more loss of tax base.) At what cost "progress." Better for who? Why? Hmmmm.

I'd like to see other people take the wheel, slam on the brakes, make a J-turn and peel out in another direction. - snaildarter

The wheeling & dealing going on behind the scenes regarding the waste disposal site, have me wondering if this endorsement has a connection somewhere. Maybe its only that Durell needs another friendly face on the council. I can't see why Comeaux would get involved unless there is a prop tax or assessment connection... strange goings on... - Morrow

Doise and Durel live off of lies. Durel has stated many lies about Naquin. He is not against the horse farm, nor festival international, nor the arts. In fact, I have seen him volunteering for festival every year. If a person volunteers for festival, I highly doubt that "he is against the arts and cultures". Both Doise and Durel turn against lifelong friends and family to get themselves farther in the game. They are lying thieves. Durel is scared of Naquin because he is not a yes-man and will actually stand up against him. I hope the rest of the people in district 6 do their research on Doise and see through all the lies. - .....

If anyone thinks Jared Doise is aqn upright straight living honorable man, Why would Joey aND Conrad endorse him. Duh, for the money. Natch and they all three belong together in the same bed. - NORTHSIDIAN SHOTGUN

I know Jared Doise personally and have for many years. He is a snake in the grass to best friends, wife, it doesn't matter. He will cut anyone and everyones throat for his desire to be a Shannon Wilkerson in the bar industry. That is all he knows or has ever done. What kind of councilman is that... ? Better watch out....If you vote for him... You deserve his lack of ethics... The having to make payroll comment above is a joke... His bartenders make nothing and have to rely on tips to make a living... not from Jared...

An endorsement from a man who states in a televised council meeting that "if we have to deceive the federal government to get the money, (HUD? LHA?..hmmm), that's ok with me" - historyonyx

Joey is squandering your tax money and Lafayette’s future with his hair brained ideas, approved by his "rubber stamp" council led by Donnie Bertrand, to financially benefit his financial contributors, Doise is just another Dore. Joey knows that Naquin will be conservative and will not be controlled by Joey and Bertrand, “tax and spend” RINOs. Raising your utility rates is just a scam to cover losses in Fiber, another hair brain Idea. - R. Reagan

Buck the system as in not falling in line just to fall in line. Its not my district, but ea councilman represents more than just his district. I have no problem with the reps who vote against non governmentals. I think most could stand on their own. I personally think its wrong of the mayor/pres to endorse anyone for council. It makes me thing Durell way too arrogant. After all, if the other guy gets in, Durell has alienated him by messin in his bidness. I believe Mr. Naquin has enough integrity to handle himself respectfully, in spite of Durells interference. And this waste facility has my interest piqued, so I absolutely appreciate the thought another man not indebted to Durell would be looking at issues. - BoFred

Mainstream media has been getting away with stereotyping the Tea Partiers, calling them all sorts of mean, nasty, despicable things. So Joey has cast his lot with the haters of the Tea Party in this letter of endorsement and in other recent statements.

The Tea Party has been compared with the "Silent Majority"... those folks who were silent because they spent most of their time doing their jobs and serving their communities and families, not protesting or dropping out or grooving or whatever.

I think the Tea Partiers are the Adults, and the Progressivists/ Socialists/ Crony Capitalists are the wide-eyed partying adolescents, trashing the house, using the credit card, wrecking the car, thinking the Adults will never come back and notice what they did. Or even try to do something about it.

I have a modest proposal for Durel about getting more money in Lafayette's coffers (BTW, is the new Lafayette logo for the city, the parish, or both? Why doesn't it say LCG?)

We could, just like a rare few other cities, have LCG INCOME TAX. While current federal tax code might help Lafayette keep money here (Local tax is deducted from Fed tax income) possibly without raising an individual's total local, state and Fed tax burden.

Remember this is only a "Modest Proposal" my Tea Party friends to illustrate the governmental sophistry (and Federal money) to which Durel is drawn like a little fluttering bug thing to a little flickering flame thing. - snaildarter

Anyone who is endorsed by Joey Durel should RUNNNNNNNNNN as fast as he/she can!! It's poison...mark my words! He may have won the election, but if you look at the results, you will see that over 16,000 people voted against Durel! The Non-Joey-Lovers are SICK OF IT!! - Saintsgirl69

LOL, yeah, right. Because the "tea party" is really controlling things in Lafayette. I think Durel, and theIND, and all the other leftist/democrat/progressive types need to just forget about the "tea party". If you really don't like them, and think they're really wrong, then quit covering them..:). Give them the media blackout treatment that Ron Paul gets. - ragin_cajun

BoFred wants a man who "bucks the system" as long as its not his "Tea Party System". Sounds like the TP is the one saying "give ME a YES man", i.e. Mr. Naquin.

How about sending someone with an open mind who will accept constituent input, i.e. Mr. Doise ?????? - ??????????

Oh, an endorsement like this, could cost someone an election. This, to me, is the same as saying "Send me a YES man." I kind of like a man who bucks the system even if its not popular. Remember how your daddy tried to teach you to be your own man, not to just go along with the crowd??? Sounds like Naquin might be that kind of man. Also, I don't think a lot of people understand (Babineaux) that while we might not agree with every Tea Party endorsement or principle, they are spot on on a lot of issues. There are a lot of NON TP citizens who are agreeable with the TP stance on certain issues. The TP may be a voice, but they are not influencing us, and we are smart enuf to develop our own opinions. I believe some govt reps should realize that (Durel, Babineaux) - BoFred

There's a reason that Sam Doré did not even make the runoff --- District 6 did not want another rubberstamp for the administration. Aparently, they want an independent, mature, fair minded person. In my opinion, Mr. Naquin is that person. Good luck, Andy. - Ophelia 46

And let me express my thoughts and perceptions on Durel and those he supports and that support him with another Chesterton quote:

“There are no wise few. Every aristocracy that has ever existed has behaved, in all essential points, exactly like a small mob.” - G.K. Chesterton in Heretics - snaildarter
