Lanky:Only lawyers cruising for a case would attend all zoning meetings. Most of us have full time jobs & think the landfill company will lose the case. As more and more info comes out it is obvious the proper steps were not followed. Now do you understand, not all of us are the dumb asses you think we are? You see my man, the only people who do not disagree with you are all eating from the same plate!! - the original northsidian

so the failure of those citizens to be diligent and engage in the civic process is going to cost the rest of us taxpayers when the landfill company inevitably files suit and wins.

so much for accountability, i guess. - lanky lawyer

lanky lawyer said 'and hopefully the citizens in that area will be proactive concerning developments around them and will not throw a temper tantrum to get their way 8 months after the developer gets zoning approval'

you know that you have absolutely no idea what you're talking about, right? NO ONE knew anything about the waste station, except zoning, until construction started. Zoning worked on it for over a year, not 8 months, and, according to Durel's office and the council, didn't tell ANYONE..

get your facts straight before YOU throw your little tantrum. - LafayetteForUs

I was wondering the same thing on this transfer. Besides presumably LCG becoming responsible for maintenance and upgrade costs instead of sharing those costs with the state, other than implementing policy for traffic access management along the roadway, how does this change the impact for any landowner/developer versus what has already been constructed along that stretch of road? Previous poster is right that this does allow us a simpler internal review process for choosing red-light cameras.

Contrary to other thoughts expressed here, I believe this will not change Lafayette Zoning settings that only permit some activities. If the city was to build another sewer plant there, municipal uses probably are exempt from any zoning code whatsoever. That's where political pressure comes in. We're citizens. We are not powerless. There is a process for deciding such things. It may not be perfect, but there is a process. The important thing is that citizens stay engaged and know how it works. Democracy and citizenship is more than just putting in a vote every couple years. - Jason D. Faulk

The way this city is going, those high dolla neighborhoods ought to be real scared right now. Some big plant could dump right there in the Vermillion. Absolutely no telling what planning & zoning might approve, a big alligator processing factory or something. - Hope
