There is also the fact that the area is full of bikers and walkers, many being ULL students. If commercial development is allowed then there will be much more traffic, and we know that Lafayette drivers have a penchant for speeding through areas like Girard Park. I would assume the folks at LCG are taking this into account?

Sad how people with power and influence just get the law changed when it no longer suits their agenda. - Justin Price

Jackie: That is an excellent post!! Perhaps your group should seek funding from the Lafayette Public Trust Financing Authority to restore this park?! (might need a nonprofit status) Funds in this agency should be open to alllll good community projects and not be the private piggy bank of ULL and one developer!! Demand your share!! - Cookie Broussard

Ms. Hirshberg tis not the city of Lafayette who is aligning with this thief in the night Puzzle-butt Davidson, no maam its the Joey Durel and his cronys who are aligned with stealing the greenspace from the residents who own homes in this pristine unsoiled serene neighborhood in the name of progress, just as the " Dump near Sunbeam lane, a highly progressive and profitable move by the undercover cronys of the administration. It was plain as vanilla cake that this administration, we are talking the parish president, the tax assessor, oops 1/2 of the councilman, not the whole, would join with davidson, think back Lafayette citizens, hell you Lafayette parish residents, could bust this ring up just as you should have busted this gang of cronys to hell by voting against the present regime in the last elections, but no, you allowed this cancerous infested regime to walk on you and your children. Just remember this, " any thing worth having is worth waiting on ", Lafayette citizens wake up, today the Girard Park neighborhood, and when was it the Moss Street Neighborhood with a progressive " BUS STATION complete with winos and pedophiles, this last year the Sunbeam trash depot, Lafayette Parish citizens, stand and bond with your Girard Park neighbors, and send a strong message to Davidson and the damn one sided Lafayette Politicians let them know, " If they side with one greed driven illegal producer of an un-permitted, unlicensed plastics business, " HEADS WILL ROLL, enough is enough ".
This Feb. 5th. a petition titled " Stop the Madness " is being penned by a group of prominent residents of this city. A petition whch will outline how you as a resident can stop this city's politicos and their crooked cronys, from destroying this Green neighborhood, bond together and help these neighbors of ours remain with their beloved green space neighborhood. A drive for funds which will be used to assist the Girard Park neighbors in their legal battle against Davidson and the LCG, will be initiated by concerned citizens who have seen the writing on the wall, today your neighbor across the parish, tomorrow it will be you and your neighborhood, beleagured citizens of Lafayette for love of money these thiefs in the night will commit a devastating unreversable faux pas, destroying many of your Neighbors lifes, " For the love of Money !

Volunteers will be welcomed and screened by the organizers of " STOP THE MADNESS . - chano leal

Today, Friday, I walked my dog around the Maurice Heymann Memorial Park at the corner of South College and Girard Park Drive. I was surprised to discover a plaque from 1972 dedicated to Mr. Heymann, done in Bronze so it would last, at least until the City wanted to sell it. The plaque talked about all the wonderful things Mr. Heymann had done for the City of Lafayette with no ulterior motives. A friend told me there used to be a fountain there and an ETERNAL flame to honor this fine gentleman. No longer is it there. I guess eternal doesn't mean what it used to. It is an overgrown mess that the LCG (Lafayette City Government) is planning to destroy for PROFIT by removing the restrictions for GREED. One thing I know is that the Mr. Heymann that did so much for Lafayette would never be a part of this scheme between the city of Lafayette and Mr. Davidson, PRESIDENT of the Louisiana Bar. Seems like the Davidson crowd and the City of Lafayette are pulling out the big guns. I just wish Mr. Heymann could be here as I know he would stand with us, the protectors of the green space for the people that make up the City, not the politicians or their BOSSES like Davidson. I know that the men that were alive at the time Mr. Maurice Heymann was would be standing tall and calling the Lafayette Consolidated Government dishonest for secretly filing suit on a neighborhood without even asking how we felt about the plan. Well since the philanthropist, Mr. Heymann, is deceased and his eternal flame was put out, maybe we all could stand for him and for the great things he did for this city that the administration and MR. DAVIDSON are trying to destroy. If you love Girard Park then please help the residents fight. I am angrier with the City of Lafayette's Consolidate Government that with Davidson, as the City is supposed to help ALL of us and we already knew Davidson only is interested in helping himself. He is no Maurice Heymann - Jackie Hirshberg

I guess you could term me visionary, although, i can't condone or sugar coat treading on any ones rights and or bulling of unsuspecting elderly victims. Davidson is a sorry excuse for a human being, this DAVIDSON is a genuine pure mishap, the best part of this couillion was spilt on the floor. It pains me to involve myself in giving this any of my attention being I am not an english major. So, I'll just give this bobo a lick and a promise for now. " I'LL BE BACk ! - chano leal

“Hell has three gates: lust, anger, and greed.” – Bhagavad Gita

It’s ironic that Davidson’s father was one of the neighborhood’s founding visionaries. People describe Davidson’s father as an attorney known for his integrity and fairness. I can’t imagine how Davidson’s father would view his son’s approach with his fellow neighbors, and respect for the law. Davidson seems to be driven by greed and questionable methods in pursuit of money, as is impeccably chronicled in Leslie Turk’s “Don’t Back Down,” article.

It seems that whether he was secretly operating a plastics manufacturing company in his back yard or trying to bully an appraiser in the past, his ways have not changed. I have not been part of any of these previous Davidson adventures, but being one of the neighbors that have been served, I have first hand experience with his lack of integrity and honesty. Just this morning, I ran into another elderly neighbor that was manipulated into signing a waiver to exempt Davidson’s property from the covenant, and this person was so upset due to the misrepresentation of the document, fortunately my neighbor was relieved once he was able to rescind his agreement. I wonder if this elderly neighbor needed that extra stress inflicted by Davidson.

It would be nice to think that only Davidson was moved by greed and a lack of vision, but it appears this week, the Lafayette government, in some form, has joined Davidson’s cause and would also like to turn more property along Girard Park Drive into commercial property even though it is part of the protected covenant. It is a little suspect that the city government is supportive of Davidson, and yet has never had an open discussion with the neighborhood about plans of any kind. Why are residential and preserved areas causing such covert interest of public officials when one street over is the Oil Center filled with tons of commercial property for sale and lease? The oil center is an amazing area and under utilized. Even though Davidson owns property that can be a multi family dwelling, he still wants more.

The community loves Girard Park and it is well used. Some of the homes that surround the park are historical landmarks, which add to the beauty and charm of the park, along with other older well-preserved homes. There is a reason parks are not surrounded by commercial industry. It is important for members of the community to have a beautiful place to go and play with their families and enjoy the outdoors. Lafayette government needs to support the needs and desires of the community that elected them.

I am sure of one thing, it will be a pleasure to continue working with people who do have vision and care about preserving the legacy of Girard Park and the surrounding neighborhood. It’s just the right thing to do.

Our neighborhood is a Green Space for all of Lafayette! The residential character has been delicately balanced for many years, in spite of being surrounded by the University, the Oil Center and the hospital! This balance is the definition of SMART GROWTH!! The early owners of this area of land knew that the residential nature would need protection and hence, they developed our covenant, which is being contested! When, commercialization is allowed to upset this delicate balance, the neighborhood's character will be forever changed! - Ellen Olivier

Lets not forget the other in-breds involved in the horse farm trade or as I should clearly describe the swap, a hell of a screwin of the residents of Lafayette by Davidson and his cronys, Remember Inbred thiefs will join together due to the same selfish, greedy, self serving appetites of stuffing their greedy guts and also remember that the Lafatyette Administrators are also a major player in one-sided appreciated land swaps by their cronys and the inbred cronys. - chano leal
