I have been pondering why a growing community is underfunded to maintain its operating costs. Presuming that all other factors being addressed that might limit funds available on an annual basis, I keep coming back to Millage "Rollbacks". Why didn't Lester mention getting high value properties in Lafayette appraised properly? What is Lester doing to help correct the flaw in property tax laws that let million dollar plus properties be appraised as agricultural land. Maybe if the vacant land was appraised properly we would have a SURPLUS in property tax payments. But then everone would be treated equally. Presumably they would be located on the south side since that's where most of the growth has been. If you have the time, here's a link to video of the Jan. 24 council meeting.
