Durel mentions possibly raising the tax rate on property as a solution. I have been pondering why a growing community is underfunded to maintain its operating costs. Presuming that all other factors being addressed that might limit funds available on an annual basis, I keep coming back to Millage "Rollbacks". Does anyone know when/how much our property tax millages were rolled back over the decades, and what revenue would be available if these were all rolled forward to the originally intended rates? - Jason Faulk

Joe,
I got a voicemail last night from a former LCG department head (now retired) who said the stations are planned for areas near West Congress/Domingue and Kaliste Saloom/Ambassador. - Walter Pierce

Joey make it your business, to go to the extinguished gas torch memorial dedicated to the great man Mr. Maurice Heymann, whom "You'll never rate the status to even utter his name " you yourself never having considered or put any one ahead of your personal friends.....Go light the torch and tender it, as it should be tendered, and then come tell us what you want, better yet come back and tell us what you really need.

Lets say for the hell of it that Joey wants the fire stations in close proximity of his Pet Project River Ranch, hell it sure would be good for the property owners in the area what with fradulent arrived at property taxes and lesser property insurance rates. Aiyeeee, now we in high cotton, podnuhs ! - chano leal

And one more thing. Why didn't Lester mention getting high value properties in Lafayette appraised properly? What is Lester doing to help correct the flaw in property tax laws that let million dollar plus properties be appraised as agricultural land. Maybe if the vacant land was appraised properly we would have a SURPLUS in property tax payments. But then everone would be treated equally. We should know, the powers that be don't want this to ever happen!!!! - Michael A. Moss

I like number 5 & 6. If you don't have it don't spend it. Lester and his friends forgot something. Make Johnston St. a toll road. Lafayette is the only Republican controlled town that loves tax increases, toll roads, and over spending more than Liberal Democrats!! And speaking of Maurice Heymann, is this not the same bunch that want to rezone his old neighbor hood? Lester, come on man!! - Michael A. Moss

Joe,
I can't find any council documents that indicate exactly where the stations are needed, but I can tell you they're both within the city of Lafayette, not outside in the parish. Presumably they would be located on the south side since that's where most of the growth has been.
If you have the time, here's a link to video of the Jan. 24 council meeting. I think Chief Benoit mentions the locations during his presentation to the council (discussion starts near the 1 hour/20 minute mark: http://www.ustream.tv/recorded/19985908 - Walter Pierce
