Art goes green at the wetlands center

 Every demographic gets its month in the sun, and women celebrate themselves in March. The National Women’s History Project this year honors women who have taken the lead in the environmental movement. So it’s no surprise that the author of Silent Spring, Rachel Carson, is the poster child for the 2009 theme: Women Taking the Lead to Save our Planet. Here in Lafayette, the USGS National Wetlands Research Center is sponsoring an exhibit of “green” art. Works of art with environmental subject matter or constructs using recycled materials are being accepted through March 10. The show will open with an evening reception on March 16, filling the main hallway with everything from hanging glass fish to earthy ceramic sculpture.
