Annual1Need To Know
Your go-to guide for living, working, playing and raising a family in Lafayette.

Roads and oil. If anything set Lafayette to becoming the vibrant, bustling city it is today, it’s roads and oil. Beginning more than a century ago, Lafayette started connecting itself to surrounding towns via a system of highways that served as spokes, putting the “hub” in Hub City. But it was Interstate 10 and the emergence of the oil industry in the middle of the 20th century that gave us a head of steam. Today an economically diverse Lafayette Parish is home to about 225,000 people, just more than half of them living in the city limits of the parish seat, Lafayette. And being the smallest parish in the state in terms of square miles, we’re packed in pretty tight.

But whether you’ve lived here your whole life or are a recent transplant, keeping tabs on the various government services, recreational activities and entertainment choices can be daunting. That’s where our Annual Manual comes in.
