Freetown Fries has created another seasonal favorite well suited for the upcoming Mardi Gras festivities.

The dish of the day is a pile of sweet potato fries and topped with a rich cream cheese glaze. If that weren’t enough (this IND eater could chow down on just that all day), it’s sprinkled with green, gold and purple sugar for extra oomph. No fork needed — just dive in with your fingers.

Freetown Fries has been keeping a low profile the past few days with the rain, but with the weather clearing up tomorrow, they should be out serving up this sweet snack.

For those of you who are still sticking to that New Year’s Resolution to keep your calorie consumption low, Molly Kimball of the Times-Pic provides an easy-to-follow guide for consuming king cake — and what you have to do to burn the calories. King cakes rarely arrive on the shelves with nutrition facts, so it’s difficult to know how much will bust your calorie count for the day. Here’s a cheat sheet for you:

One-inch slice (diameter of a quarter): 100 calories
- Burn it! 25 minutes of strolling along the parade route will burn off the calories in a one-inch slice of king cake.

2.5-inch slice (width of iPhone or Blackberry): 250 calories
- Burn it! Catching beads for 78 minutes will negate the calories in this average-sized slice of king cake.

Six-inch slice (length of a dollar bill): 600 calories
- Burn it! To offset the calories in this slab-like piece of king cake, you would need to second line for two hours.

Heaven knows we’ll be dancing enough to burn off these king cake calories in the coming weeks. Chase a couple chickens at a traditional courir de Mardi Gras and indulge without guilt.
