Tomorrow, the Kaplan Chamber of Commerce will host the eighth annual Cajun Food Fest in downtown Kaplan, which includes a car show, live music, pageant and a Cajun food cook-off. The cooking competition starts at 10 a.m. and contestants must cook a dish that fits into the barbecue baby back ribs, brisket or chicken categories. Judging takes place at 5 p.m. and there is a $30 entry fee per dish.

There are basic rules for the cook-off, including that the dish must be cooked on a barbecue, must be enough to feed 30 adults, and no more than three team members per entry. Judges will determine a winner based on appearance, texture and taste.

Festival entry is $10 for adults and free for children 10 and under.

Next Saturday holds the tenth annual Latin music Festival, where Pamplona, Barandas, Café Habana City, Izzo’s, Agave, La Morenita and Tampico will be serving food. Other activities include live music, dance demonstrations and art exhibits.

That same weekend, on Saturday and Sunday, travel to Roberts Cove for the down-south Germanfest celebration — including a new home brew competition. There will be authentic German food, as well as live German music. Entry is $8 for adults and free for children 13 and under.
