Frog fest

The city of Rayne is gearing up to welcome thousands of visitors to the 41st Annual Rayne Frog Festival, which will be held from Nov. 6-10,  at the Frog Festival grounds. This unique Fete de Oua Oua Ron, which is the Cajun name for festival of the bullfrogs,  offers a safe, family festival for all ages and culture. The festival kicks off Wednesday, Nov. 6,  at 5 p.m. with Carnival Family Night with Mitchell Bros. & Sons Amusements offering wristband specials to popular rides for all ages, games and food.

Rain or shine, the spacious Frog Festival Pavilion provides the perfect venue for Thursday, Nov. 7, with an opening ceremony at 6 p.m., vendor booth openings, and dancing along with the full schedule of musical entertainment starting at 7 p.m. with Ronnie Matthews, followed by Geno Delafose & French Rockin Boogie at 9 p.m. Gate admission is $5 for adults and $1 for children under 12 years of age. 

On Friday, Nov. 8, the entertainment, food and fun continue at 5 p.m. Musical entertainment will be provided by High Performance at 6:30 p.m.; Jamie Bergeron & The Kickin Cajuns at 8:30 p.m. and Bag of Donuts at 10:30 p.m. Festival gate admission is $10 for adults and $1 for children under 12 years of age.

 

On Friday, Nov. 8, the entertainment, food and fun continue at 5 p.m. Musical entertainment will be provided by High Performance at 6:30 p.m.; Jamie Bergeron & The Kickin Cajuns at 8:30 p.m. and Bag of Donuts at 10:30 p.m. Festival gate admission is $10 for adults and $1 for children under 12 years of age.

On Saturday, Nov. 9, the City of Rayne will be bustling with a full day of exciting events for the entire family. From 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. Festival gate admission for adults is $5 and from 1 p.m. until closing is $10 and $1 for children under 12 years of age. Saturday’s schedule of events begin with the Arts & Crafts Show, sponsored by the Rayne Beautification Board, opening the doors at 10 a.m., to browse and shop with more than 60 exhibitors until 6 p.m. at the Rayne Civic Center adjoining the festival grounds. Admission is $1.  At 9 a.m., laughter and tears are guaranteed at the exciting Diaper Derby sponsored by the Rayne Jaycees; Mr. and Miss Tadpole introductions also sponsored by the Rayne Jaycees will be held at 9:45 a.m., followed by Project Dance, under the direction of Nikki Link, will perform at 9:55 a.m. Vendor booths open at 10 a.m.  Then there’s the annual Frog Derbys Queens Contest sponsored by the Rayne Lions Club at 10 a.m., which features pretty ladies dressed in frog jockey attire, and the biggest frogs jumping in all directions. The International Rice Festival Dance Troupe will then perform at 10:30 a.m.
