F. Camalo is a Lafayette institution. It’s what happens after more than three decades offering high end menswear that balances the fine line of traditional without a hint of the boring. On March 1 the longtime Oil Center retailer will take up residence at a new location with all of the same beloved brands and service in a sleek new space.
Frank and Peggy Camalo and company are moving across the parking lot from their current location on Heymann Boulevard to the old Molli store next door to Harold Clarke’s atelier. While the space is not larger, the layout and benefits to customers appealed to the retailer.
“The selling floor has great natural light, and there’s better parking for the store. Much more parking,” says Peggy.
The new location will have a different aesthetic from the current store where the retailer has been for 20 years.
“We’ve painted the outside. It’s going to be very clean and modern. Look more streamlined,” Peggy says. “The layout will be easier.”
In an effort to focus more on suits, sport coats and trousers, customers will be greeted first by these pieces when they walk in before making their way to the back of the space where sportswear will be displayed. Work has begun to revamp the space, and a Ferrari red door and accents have already been painted, paving the way for a new F. Camalo. The courtyard long belonging to the retail space will remain intact, and they hope to use it in the future for events like trunk shows or get-togethers for the men who find their fine suits at F. Camalo.
In preparation for the move, a massive sale is under way — with some items discounted 25 to 75 percent off. Shoes, leather coats, suits, sport coats, knits, jeans and even some tuxes are on the chopping block and will remain on sale through the better part of February.
