Gulf Brew 2011 is one of the biggest fundraisers that the Acadiana Center for the Arts throws every year and it’s not without reason: The best of beer and food from the Gulf Coast region makes for a great way to pass a Saturday evening. Huge white tents blanket the park and have more than adequate air conditioning.

If you buy a regular ticket it’s $25 and the shindig starts at 6 p.m. July 23. However, if you buy a $50 ticket you get in an hour earlier which means no lines. You can only enter Gulf Brew if you are 21 or older. It’s $15 for a non-taster ticket, which means you don’t get beer. I’m not quite sure who this option appeals to but if it’s you then mazel tov! Get your tickets online here or by calling AcA at 233-7060 or simply going to its box office to pick some up.

What kind of beers? Well, the AcA was kind enough to let us see. Skip down to the bottom of this blog for a complete listing of the beers being offered with your ticket price that day.

But! This being a festival in Louisiana, beer isn’t all you get. Lake Charles’ band The Von Dukes play their Sun Records-soaked rockabilly starting at 5 p.m. At 6 p.m. is Rex Moroux, the Soul Express Band at 7:15 p.m. and finishing up with DJ Miyagi.

There is parking all around downtown but if you feel like biking to Gulf Brew that’s is a whole other new thing this year. Starting this year, BikeLafayette will be holding what is essentially a coatcheck for bikes. Simply find the BikeLafayette bicycle corral and this advocacy and awareness group will watch over your ride while you get down to beer business.
