Four scholarships are available to local high schoolers about to enter college courtesy of a local fraternity.

The Omega Psi Phi Fraternity at UL is offering seniors in high school the chance to apply for scholarships through the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity's National High School Essay Contest. The frat has 12 districts broken into clusters of states across the U.S. Each chapter of Omega Psi Phi will mail the best essays submitted to them to its district heads and from there the best will make it to the national chapter. The national chapter will make the final decisions. The last chance to enter is by mailing an essay postmarked no later than Nov. 1.

The four scholarships available range from $500 to $3,000.

The topic is "The impact of social media on the advancement of social and economic issues in the United States and the world." It must be original and must never have been published anywhere before and fall between 700 and 750 words. Three double-spaced hardcopies of this essay must be submitted to Upsilon Rho Chapter of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc.  P.O. Box 92595 Lafayette, LA 70509.
