PETA SPEAKS OUT

Thank you for focusing some attention on the campaign to get Tony the tiger retired from the Tiger Truck Stop (“Cat Fight ,” Feb. 4). Please allow me to clarify one point: PETA, nor anyone speaking on our behalf, ever suggested that Tony be let out of his cage or killed to end his misery. What we would like, as do compassionate people all over, is for Tony to be relinquished to a sanctuary so he can live out his days in comfort and peace.

In the wild, tigers roam over vast distances. They make dens in areas with dense vegetative cover and love to swim. Tigers shun human contact. Being kept in a cramped, barren cage in the middle of a truck stop parking lot is cruel.

This is 2009. The time is long overdue to show we have learned something in the many years since Montezuma first caged hunchback and albino human beings, jaguars and monkeys. Using animals as roadside props must come to an end.

i am sure peta wants to disavow the two people that were at the parish council meeting that were there that day. they cannot control what two of their members said and do not agree with their suggestions. but i personally know a witness who was there and heard the two say it. and those two people claimed to be peta members. instead of stating what i just did, they threatened to sue someone who heard them. now they can threaten to sue me too.

A heartbreaking situation for this animal, the use of animals as roadside attractions is such a terribly outdated and primitive concept - I'm at a complete loss as to how this abomination is being allowed to continue.

I would like to know what part PETA is taking in trying to get this tiger free to go to a sanctuary. The LDWF is once again talking about renewing the owner's permit come this December. The tiger badly needs people to push for his freedom from this hell hole he is living in.

This poor creature must be released to an animal sanctuary now. This is barbaric treatment of a noble and innocent creature.Surely it can´t be legal to give any living creature such a miserable existence as this.Let´s make a kinder world now and start by giving this creature a better life.
