State Republican Party endorses Jeff Landry

Written by Nathan Stubbs
Friday, September 03, 2010

The Jeff Landry campaign continues to build momentum in southeast Louisiana's 3rd Congressional District race. On Thursday, the New Iberia attorney picked up another endorsement, this one from the state Republican party, in advance of the Oct. 2 primary runoff against former state Rep. Hunt Downer.

Landry made an impressive showing at the polls in last Saturday's primary, coming a mere 162 votes short of claiming the Republican party nomination outright in a three-person field that included Downer and fellow New Iberian Kristian Magar. The winner of the October runoff will go on to face Democrat Ravi Sangisetty in the Nov. 2 general election. State Republican Party Chairman Roger Villere released the following statement regarding his organization's support for Landry:

The Republican Party of Louisiana urges Republicans in the Third Congressional District to unite behind the candidacy of Jeff Landry in the election for Congress. This is a very important seat and could conceivably provide the deciding vote to unseat Nancy Pelosi as Speaker of the House.

On Saturday, Mr. Landry was a mere 162 votes short of officially claiming Republican Party's nomination when he earned 49.6% of the vote in a three-person field. The Republican Party of Louisiana now joins the majority of Republican Party leaders in the Third District, the Tea Party of Louisiana and the Republican voters of District 3 in supporting Jeff Landry.

I extend my thanks to Hunt Downer and Kristian Magar, two honorable men who have served their country with distinction, for running such spirited campaigns. I salute both of them and look forward to working with them in the future. It is now time to unite behind Jeff Landry to defeat our well-financed liberal opponent who will be a rubber stamp for Obama and Pelosi."

Landry has run an informative campaign. Unfortunately, I early voted for Downer before I saw his record of higher taxes and wasteful spending. Downer will NOT get my vote ever again... GEAUX LANDRY!
