Landrieu still holding up OMB nominee

Written by Leslie Turk
Thursday, September 30, 2010

U.S. Interior Secretary Ken Salazar today unveiled new offshore drilling safety regulations, but because he would not commit to an early end to the drilling moratorium, U.S. Sen. Mary L. Landrieu is maintaining her block of the nomination of Jack Lew to director of the Office of Management and Budget.

“My hold on Mr. Lew’s nomination will remain for the same reason it was placed originally,” Landrieu said, noting that the administration has not yet acted to lift its “ill-conceived” moratorium on offshore drilling. She maintains the policy is having a devastating impact on working people and small businesses throughout the Gulf Coast. The six-month moratorium on deepwater drilling, which the Obama administration put in place after the Deepwater Horizon disaster, is set to expire Nov. 30.

Landrieu said everyone — in particular those who live along the coast — wants offshore energy production safety standards strengthened. “But we have been able to demonstrate that the oil and gas industry can improve safety progressively over time, without a complete work stoppage,” she said.

The Democratic senator added that the evidence is overwhelming that this moratorium is a poor economic policy and has achieved no safety improvements that could not have been achieved in its absence.

This lady is a clown. She is blocking Obama's agenda and at the same time doing freak shows with CHARLES GRASSLEY, THE REPUBLICAN WHO SAYS CRAZY THINGS LIKE Obama IS GOING TO PULL THE PLUG ON GRANDMA, AND Obama WAS NOT BORN IN AMERICA.

THIS LADY IS A CLOWN.
I'LL NEVER VOTE FOR HER AGAIN, AND I AM NOT VOTING FOR HER BROTHER.

What? I thought Republicans were holding things up.

Republicans-the party of No.

The Democrats-the party of Don't No.

Sensible, why the bleeding heart liberal routine.

You should have learned by now that government isn't the answer. I (a left leaning republican, and no I won't explain) applaud her for realizing that the state of Louisiana is suffering because of an uninformed president punishing the state that he couldn't carry.

In fairness, I won't vote for Mary either. And unless you live in New Orleans, you will never be able to vote for her brother (unless he runs for another office.)

Rinkelstein,

If BUSH/CHENEY were in office during BP spill, they would have not held them accountable. Katrina-Landrieu looked like a silly clown following Bush around and not holding him accountable. She was so nervous (google the video)and not knowing what the hell to do, her face was twiching like a beaver.

Obama got 20 billion from BP, and thats just a start. Landrieu needs to be holding big oil responsible, not Obama.

She is a CLOWN-A REAL CLOWN.

Sensible, I am talking about apples and you are talking about oranges. Holding up a nomination in order to correct an uninformed decision by the worst president in the past twenty years deserves applause. Obama is trying to put the nail in the coffin of Louisiana. If you can't see that, then you're blind.

Now GUYS,

You need to put your race hate BAIT to bed. Obama is one of the most intellectual, graceful President that we've had since Ike.

I'm a white male and retired. I go to a lot of TEA PARTY events. What their main agenda is is race hate. I sit by them listening to the ugliness and hatrate.

Obama is going to maintain both houses as well as a second term.

See fellows, sensible right thinking white folks like myself will not let hate and racism define our country.

When you cast your ballot, vote dems.

Thanks,Mary for standing up to the capricious Socialist we have for a President. Expect him (through Salazar) to lift the ban, with added "safeguards" (red tape). Drilling in the Gulf will be like building a nuclear reactor -- 12 years of study to start. And as for sticking it to BP to pay for his decision, expect BP to pull the plug on the 20 billion (not legally binding) and say see you in court. Post incident laws have always been deemed illegal by the courts. A noble gesture by Sen. Landrieu, but expect the Chicago guys to come up with their payback.
