Happy birthday Edwin.

Well, it’s not really his birthday until Aug. 7, but former Gov. Edwin Edwards' brother Marion and a growing coterie of friends and well wishers are already planning the bash. What began as an 84th birthday party at the historic Monteleone Hotel in New Orleans, where Edwards traditionally celebrated his numerous gubernatorial victories, has swelled into a roast.

Planned for the ballroom where Edwards held his election-night parties, the roast, which is sure to bring out the best of the state’s political pundits, had to be scheduled on July 30 to secure the room. According to the Washington Post, admission will be charged.

By that date, Edwards will have completed the terms of his release from a federal detention center following a 10-year sentence for racketeering.
