Lafayette Science Museum director resigns

Written by Heather Miller
Friday, March 25, 2011

Mary Henderson, director of the Lafayette Science Museum, is leaving her post at the museum effective April 15.

LCG Community Development Director Ben Berthelot confirms in an e-mail that Henderson announced her resignation recently through a memo sent to Berthelot.

Henderson did not say in the memo why she’s resigning and has not yet told Berthelot what her plans are after she leaves.

“I am thankful to Mary for her years of service to the Science Museum, and wish her well in her new endeavors,” Berthelot says.

Henderson has served as the museum’s director since 2002, around the same time the museum moved downtown and changed its name from the Lafayette Natural History Museum to the Lafayette Science Museum.

As for the direction of the museum following Henderson’s departure, Berthelot says, “We are blessed with an excellent staff that will continue to run our Giant Worlds Exhibit, and I will begin our search for a replacement.”

Henderson is on annual leave until next week and was unavailable for comment.

Giant Worlds, a traveling exhibit exploring the solar system’s four “giants” — Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune — is on display at the downtown museum until May 13. For more information on the exhibit, visit the Lafayette Science Museum’s website.

I personally will miss her. There is excellent staff to carry on. It is so arduous now running these philantropic concerns (they are real burn-outs)! I trust Mary will find something more worthy of her considerable talents. She was a lady of extraordinary energy, charm and beauty!

Dear Titus,
Are you insane? Talent? Charm? Beauty?
You must be confusing her with someone else.
Better yet... Mary, are you writing your own comments?
