Very bold, state Senate, very bold!

With a 34-0 vote Thursday, the Senate gave final passage to a bill outlawing sales of e-cigarette, vaporizers and other alternative nicotine products to minors, like the state already does for cigarette sales.

There are only a few weeks remaining until legislators will adjourn their regular session on June 2. For bills that have not passed their house of origin, time is a factor.

In their strongest poll showing yet, three Republican challengers lead U.S. Sen. Mary Landrieu by 10 points in an independent poll of likely voters — a sharp contrast to a recent NYT poll.

Senate Finance Committee Chairman Jack Donahue is proposing to raise the minimum grade point average and ACT score required to get a TOPS award for future students.
