With former Gov. Edwin Edwards more than likely serving as the Democrats’ best hope of seizing the 6th Congressional District, attention is turning to whether the state party will get behind the candidate, who was in federal prison just a few years ago.

While the Democratic and Republican parties in Louisiana have decided to team up to pursue unlimited fundraising possibilities on the federal level, there may also be a shared legislative agenda in the works on the state level.

Five parents of students in Louisiana's school voucher program will probably appeal an order for the state to send reports about the program to federal attorneys, one of their attorneys said Monday.

Buddy Roemer, a Republican who is president of a Baton Rouge-based bank, served one term as governor from 1988 to 1992. Before that, he was a congressman from 1980 to 1988. He made an unsuccessful attempt at a third-party candidacy for president in 2012.
