U.S. Rep. Charles Boustany, R-Lafayette, has requested a meeting with Eric Shinseki, secretary of the federal Department of Veterans Affairs over the delay in the opening of the VA Community Based Outpatient Clinic in Lafayette, indicating he is “both frustrated and concerned” with the pace of the clinic’s opening. Boustany has been receiving monthly updates from the VA on the clinic’s progress and indicates he is particularly upset over what he characterizes “the open-ended timeline for completion of the project, adding that “South Louisiana veterans have been told time after time their expanded clinic is within reach, while the VA routinely pushes back the expected date of completion.
