State won’t appeal overturn of ‘Facebook’ ban

The Associated Press is reporting that the state will not appeal a federal judge’s ruling throwing out a law that barred some convicted sex offenders from using Facebook and other social media websites.

Gov. Bobby Jindal had vowed to appeal the ruling, but the head of the ACLU of Louisiana, which sued to have the law overturned, tells the AP that the group recently received a $65,000 check as reimbursement for its legal fees.

Jindal, according to the AP, wants to tweak the law in such a way that it passes legal muster. The judge threw out the law largely on the grounds that it is too broad.
