With fingers crossed and knocking on wood — part of South Louisiana remains in the “cone of uncertainty” — it looks like Tropical Storm Debby will stay on course to continue lashing Florida.

Meteorologists at the Weather Channel say although the storm is stalled over the northeast Gulf of Mexico, the official forecast track has the storm maintaining a north-northeast path and making landfall on the Florida Gulf coast later this week. TS Debby has already spawned at least one fatal tornado in the Sunshine State and dumped torrential rains.

And although the National Hurricane Center predicted a normal 2012 hurricane season for the U.S., Debby has set a record for earliest-in-season fourth named Atlantic storm. Normally, the U.S. experiences its fourth named storm in late August.
