Be a part of Horse Farm history Saturday morning

UL Lafayette President Joe Savoie and City-Parish President Joey Durel, the two local officials making Lafayette’s dream of a central park a reality, will join Save the Horse farm and other members of the community at the Johnston Street Horse Farm Saturday at 9 a.m. for a ceremony marking the official transfer of the acreage from UL to LCG.

horsefarmsaved2Durel says he hopes to make the conversion to a passive park before he leaves office in 3.5 years, though he maintains the project “will evolve over a period of years/generations.” Durel says walking/hiking and bike trails should be in place within a few years, but much of the park’s pace of development will depend on the Community Foundation of Acadiana. Those details involving CFA's role have not yet been worked out.

Parking for those attending the signing will be available at the South College Shopping Center.
