A new list compiled by an online financial data gatherer ranks Louisiana among the 10 worst states for retirees.

According to The Baton Rouge Business Report, Bankrate.com’s latest figures show that 11.5 percent of retirees in Louisiana live below the poverty line, while violent crimes are higher here per capita than in other states.

But the BRBR report counters that Louisiana has also made lists that detail the best states for retirement, which makes Louisiana a mixed bag when it comes to the golden years.

The latest list from Bankrate.com comes as Lt. Gov. Jay Dardenne is working to better Louisiana’s image as a retiree destination through his “Retire Louisiana Style” campaign launched this month.
